See post #21, I have a few of these & the fix is simple. The starter comes apart easily & goes back together the same. Each time there has not been grease in the end cap bushing.The noise is horrible in the worst case as in yours.do you have any videos of this. when i took they old starter off and connect to a jumper box it spin freely, i guess no load on it. still have it and would like to try the regrease and keep it.
Did the original spragg look undamaged? The shaft unmarred? Have you used a mechanics stethoscope to narrow down the source of the noise? That would tell you instantly if it was the starter.Did you run it with the cover off? If so, same noise?
