replaced  the spragg clutch before winter and was still getting same noise.  replace starter today and fired right up, no noise at all.    hope stays this way lol

Good to know. When mine is making the noise the engine isn't turning over so it must be the sprag for me. Sounds like CFM went cheap on the bearing grease for the starters as well..like so many other things.

i changed the spragg myself and if i can do it anyone can, wasn't overly a big job, worst was getting the flywheel off as i didnt have the proper tool.   i watched a few videos on youtube 1st lol.  make sure you ordered the proper side case seal plus just as well do oil change while your at it.
