P0171 Error - 2019 800xc
« on: April 12, 2020, 02:02:33 PM »
Hi,

Purchased last year around March and worked great the entire summer.  Stored for winter and started without a hitch.  Rode several times without issues.  Only once did I take it 'true' ATV'ing - most just in the back hills...very tame.

Couple of weeks ago went for a ride and when I shifted from 4 to 2-wheel drive error on dash.  Turned off/on and came right back. Brought back to cottage and after letting it sit for awhile turned on and no error.  Checked all fluid levels - good.

Went for a short ride, no error.  Took for a little longer ride (20mins) and it seemed as soon as engine heat had 3 bars, error.

Due to virus the store purchased from closed so can't take it back even though under warranty.

Anyone run into this before and if yes - fix?

If there's anything I can do on my own happy to try.

Thanks,

-G

I've been hearing that when the engine is hot and the air temperature is 21C or more, the EVAP system can build so much fuel vapor going into the throttle body that the EFI system can't compensate for it. Try disconnecting the EVAP hose that runs from the canister to the throttle body and cap off the throttle body. Route it downward to vent to atmosphere.

Good news is the shop i use came and carefully picked up the ATV.

Hope to hear back shortly on root cause.

Common issue on the XC, happened to me on my 2019 last year. The shop ended up swapping the ECU under warranty. I havent yet had an opportunity to heat up the machine on a hot day enough to re-test, but they think it'll fix it. I've heard others on here having the same issue and it was everything from valve clearance to defective ecu.

Good luck!
