2017 Cforce 500s
Anyone else experience what I would consider higher than normal temperature on right side of machine coming off CVT cover.  Mine is so hot that I can't keep my leg very close.  Have to ride with my foot just on the extreme edge of the foot rest.  Nice when it is cold but when it is 90 degrees F outside not comfortable

My '13 500 does the same. Maybe you could try some heat insulation behind the side panel.

Heat was not from the CVT but from the exhaust.  Had my dealer install heat wrap on the exhaust and problem fixed.  I can now ride in low gear at slow speeds and not burn my leg.

Very new to this. I have a just bought a 2013 500 with Just 600 KLM's on clock. Expected that cvt cover would be hot, due to the nature of the beast, but how hot is too hot ? I actually have a digital temp gauge with remote probe (Used for cooking normally) Wondering if it would be of use to fit probe to casing & log temps at several distances & under varying load conditions. But of course it would be most useful if anyone knows the maximum recommended temp for the unit ?

After the dealer installed the heat wrap around the exhaust pipe the temperature dropped considerably.  The reason I thought it was coming from the CVT cover was because some of the exhaust pipe heat was exiting in the area just above the cover.    As far as how hot it gets depends on engine speed and how fast you are moving.  When in low gear and a high rpms it got to the point it was next to impossible to have your leg close to the bike, rode with my foot on the extreme outside of the rest.  Still warm but bearable.  Will be nice in the winter.

Some have used high heat coating to seal it up and keep water out. You could also check the air flow of the cvt by reving it up and feeling the end of the duct. The clutches can get packed with dust and the fan is on the back of the primary clutch.

Don't know how the wrap would hold water as long as you run the engine long enough for it to dry it out.

Note: as I stated before I was mistaken about the source of the heat.  It was not coming from the CVT, it was from the exhaust and the heat was being directed down and coming out of the cowling just above the CVT cover.

They should dry mostly, but say you stop riding and it is wet. The pipe will cool pretty quick and will not dry all the way. If left outside in the rain, it might still hold water too. I'm not saying not to use it, just be aware that it might get rusty down the road. If the machine is cooking my leg, I will be happy to replace a header pipe once in a great while. This stuff is what guys are using to keep the water out. Some are ceramic coating there pipes, but no way I'm going that far with stock pipes.

Hi all, this is my first post on here as I have a new 450s, been taking it out and about on my local moors running her in before she starts working for a living and one thing I have noticed is how hot the exhaust gets and heat from the CVT unit.  Think I shall consider wrapping the exhaust pipes.

Also if you run your atv on same exast speed and rpm for a while cvt will get more and more hot.

bought a new cf moto 450 october 2020 ran it over the winter with my biker thermals on, we now have nice sunny weather so went out on it with my jeans on, and yes the heat is too much for comfort on the leg. i did a quick look at the quads, and the airflow to the manifold is restricted, it could be an easy fix at manufacture but in the meantime i will see if i can install an air flow to the manifold, plus heat wrap the plastic shield

The exhaust runs up right next to the fuel tank!  Boiling gasoline can easily explode!  In my opinion, this is a major safety hazard that needs to be recalled and repaired by CF Moto.

You are right, it should be recalled. Many are having this problem. Seems that calculated the airflow through the chassis on an average forward speed of somewhere around 10mph but not everyone averages that. Some that use them for work leave them running while sitting for short periods. They should have a heat kit for those like you that have this issue. For now maybe shut it off when sitting and move faster when not!..
