I went out and got some hose guard material. I did this when I saw that the repair the shop did, tightened my hose and now it touched the sharp plastic. 3 tie wraps and a wrap, good to go.

I used a larger size of plastic hose, split and slid over the radiator hose and tied with tie-wraps. Have not have a problem with it since.

I thought about doing that, but I got the material for free, and it is really strong stuff, slick too.

This is the thick plastic hose I used (the blue bit) to cover my rad hose, and the white cut up plastic chemical drum the shield the side of the radiator from any sticks thrown up by the wheel.
