Gearbox or Transmission Oil change
« on: November 27, 2016, 05:00:47 PM »
Hello all,

I have a CFmoto Cforce 500HO and I just changed the oil and both differentials...is there a gearbox or tranny that also needs servicing???  or does it just use the engine oil??

Thanks,
Kevin in NH

I believe the engine and transmission are together on the 500 like the 800s and...all the rest.

I have the 550 eps European version ( which is the 500HO in some other countries) and the engine oil is for both the engine and gear. One oil type for both and I believe it is 2.9 liters.
I don't think there is any other oil change other than engine/gear and both the diffs :-) 👍

I have the 500HO too.
And Yes, engine oil and both diff's are all you have. I'm still not sure if there are wet clutches in this machine or not. But I use motorcycle oil in mine anyway. Better safe then sorry. Those friction modifiers found in most regular engine oil will ruin wet clutches.

No wet clutch for you. The cvtech primary doesn't use one.

Not sure if you know but they hide a fuel filter under the gas tank plastic cover, and should be changed routinely as well.

Don't run engine oil in the diffs, This should be removed from Manual soon
If it has Pistons or Tits you will encounter problems.

I agree with you :-)
Engine oil is way too thin to be used in diffs.

Some require it though...like Kawasaki- 10W40 conventional in the front and tractor hydraulic oil in the rear. Mostly because of the wet brake and diff-loc but...no issues using it.

Hydraulic oil? or do you mean ATF (Automatic Transmission fluid)? you know the red one. But am not saying all that with 100% certainity. Hydraulic oil is way too thinner than ATF oil in such a place. Anyways different machines have their own different requirments of fluids, so you might be correct on that :-) :-)

No, tractor hydraulic oil. Tractors use it in their rear diff because of their wet brakes. It's also their reservoir for their hydraulics so it's 3-in-one usage.  Regular ATF doesn't have the right weight or additives for that application.  Here's straight out of the service manual for my BF750.
