Of the ones you mention, Motul is what many non-northamarican's use and if you can get it in a 15w40, perfect.

"If" that's a chain tensioner or the speed sensor, then the top had broken off and yes, it will spew a spray of oil. Don't used any water to clean it as if it has it will get inside. You can take it off and inspect it. Is there any loose wires near by? If not its more likely a tensioner.

This is an example of one CFM cam chain tensioner, not necessarily yours. Yours is either missing the top or it's broken off. See the difference?

I don't know but..considering that the tensioner does, I would not run it with a defective one and risk the engine. If it backs-off the chain will get loose and probably jump time...and that's the end. Just pull it and if it is a tensioner just drop a new one in . Do know that there is a special way of doing that so go by what the service manual says.

It may not be a tensioner..I don't know the 500s all that well but you can easily find out.

By the book..the pre-set tension is important...if in fact this is a chain tensioner.

OK, do you know why tensioner head has broke?
