C Force 500 HO knocking sound
« on: October 11, 2016, 11:13:35 PM »
Hello all, I recently purchased a 2016 500 HO. I have less than 200 miles on the machine and this morning I started it up and heard a loud knocking sound coming from the lower part of the engine/transmission area? I shut it off and started it back up and it was smooth for about 30 seconds and then it started making the knocking sound again. I gave it a little throttle and the sound went away but resumed once back at idle. Has anyone experienced this problem with their machine? I plan on taking it to the dealer tomorrow. I believe the first service is due at 200 miles anyway?

No, I haven't heard of this yet. Without hearing it myself, it's hard to say what is up with it. Please report back what the dealer finds. Hope it's just something loose.

Primary clutch bolt and nut are loose, the metal cover is most likely shot now. There is a hex hole on clutch cap and washer, these need to be contacted to inner clutch shaft and torqued.
If it has Pistons or Tits you will encounter problems.

Thanks for the information, I hope the dealer can get it corrected soon. Elk hunting is right around the corner! I'll let you know what they discover..

I gave the dealer that is working on my machine a call yesterday but they couldn't give me much of an update? The tech went home sick and wouldn't be back until Tuesday. All he could really tell me was they were working on it but didn't have an estimate together yet? Estimate? This should be warranty work....I'll cross that bridge when I get there. He also told me that I wouldn't need my first service until 500 miles and that it would cost @$350. Does that sound right?

I do the service myself but that sounds about right for going over everything and adjusting the valves. Should take them a few hours at least.

When mine did that, the nut backed off in the clutching.

Thanks everyone for your input. I picked up my machine yesterday and it was exactly as some of you mentioned, nut backed off in the clutch assembly. Dealer told me no damage was sustained to any of the components. Thread lock and re torq of the hardware fixed the problem. I put several hours on it today while elk hunting and it performed well, only complaint is trying to keep a steady low speed RPM. Especially while going down hill? I know this is an issue with this model so if anyone knows for certain what is causing this or even better how to correct it I would really appreciate your advise.

Seems like adjusting the idle down fixes most of them. Not sure why all the dealers don't get the TSB for it. Maybe there is other issues we don't know about.
