My 500 HO broke yesterday. Was going along fine for 20 miles or so, then it stopped. Engine runs fine, but will not go into gear (high or low). Makes a terrible gear grinding sound.

It will go into reverse, and it will move in 4x4 (with bad noises from the rear transmission) but the front wheels have power.

Any ideas?  I'm thinking something broke badly in the transmission.

If you shut it off, will it go into any forward gears? And if so, will it move when started?

I'll check it out tonight, but the fact that it has power to the front wheels tells me it's not just a linkage adjustment (if that where you were going with that).  I have been working with machines like this for a long time, and this time I really have a feeling something went horribly wrong internally.  In any case, I'm going to drop it off at the dealer for a proper analysis tonight.  I'll report back their findings.

Yeah..probably something bad. Might be the rear gear case. Mine is failing slowly. Guess I'll be pulling it this winter and rebuilding it.

I think the rear gearcase is okay.  The rear drive shaft does not move which is pointing me to the transmission.

I dropped off my machine at the dealer yesterday.  It will go into gear when it's off and I can not push it.  Rolls fine in N.  I noticed the boot that goes over the front spline connection on the rear drive shaft was pulled off of it's seat.  Not sure if that's an indicator for something...

Fun story; I had to use the winch to get it off the trailer.  (Hooked to an eye bolt and tilted the trailer).  To add insult to injury, the winch cable came out all frayed!  Ugg...

Hopefully I'll have answers sometime next week.  The good thing is CFMoto's US headquarters is only about 30 miles from me, so I'm hoping to get good response and cooperation between them and my dealer.  (and parts shouldnt take long to get)

Okay.  Here's what happened...  The rear drive shaft has a boot that holds the shaft into the splined connection.  One of the clamps failed and allowed the shaft to move back pulling it out of the coupling.

Still no word from the dealer if the splines are damaged or not, but will hopefully have my machine back soon.  I'm really relieved that it was something simple.

Got a call from the dealer today.  My machine is fixed.  And CFMoto Covered it as a good will warranty!  New driveshaft and everything!  I am really impressed with this company.  They also took care of the Cylinder Bracket recall.

Should be good for hunting now!
