Z800 Ex Rear Wheel fell off and replacement CV Joint
« on: February 14, 2016, 02:58:24 AM »
Hello, I'm in need of some help. I've recently bought a second hand Z800 Ex. It drove down the road fine and performed well for a few hours offroad. I went to take it out for a spin today and about 100 metres off the road the rear right wheel fell off. It appears as if the central nut actually unwound itself. This ruined the break disck, pad and calipers and also appears to have ruined the thread on the CV joint. I have some questions I hope you can help me with. Firstly, are the rear wheels meant to have a split pin or something? How far is the locking nut meant to go back on the CV joint thread? As on both rear wheels there were no holes for split pins, the locking nut hardlly had any bite on it when fully tightened and the left wheel almost came off as well. Does anyone know where I can get replacement CV joints? My mate has an old CF moto X8 I can cannibalise for spares. Do you know if the parts are all the same? Thanks very much, Dan.

Please do download the manual as it will explain most all your assembly questions. It is in the 800EX/800 section. And emersonsc will get you the best price on a replacement from here in the states.

There ARE supposed to be cotter pins on each axle to hold the castle nuts in place.

Also, IMO, since youre already in that area, i recommend replacing the wheel bearing as well.

Agh, I missed that he was in Wales. Although, through our ebay store we do have a LOT of European and Russian customers, so who knows, even with shipping we might still be better off.

Either way, to make things easier for you, I got a parts list for you that you'll need based on what damage you described. I hope, no matter who you purchase parts from, this helps you find them easier.

Agreed. If those nuts, which also hold a high torque rating, have been loose, the bearings may also be damaged. Also look to see that the bearing-to-knuckle is still OK. It's fit to the knuckle may have been effected being loose. May need a knuckle as well.
