I have a new 2017 800, and a couple of times I've gotten a snaping noise from the EPS when going from 4wd to 2wd.  I'm not shifting on the fly.  The noise goes away after a bit. Any ideas?

Check the splined joints before the PS unit for loose bolts. I found two loose on mine that made it snap back and forth a bit. It was more feel then sound though. Be carful not to break the bolts..they are a bit soft.

You sure its from the steering?  These units have a VERY positive lock in when you engage 4x4 and you can hear/feel it in the steering when they do.

Another thought is ...loose control arm bolts. When the holes get egged-out...lots of noise when moving back and forth.

Thinking it might be the transfer case.  The noise goes away after a bit. I was thinking the 4wd might not be disengaging all the way. I only have 90 km on it. Can't see it being wear yet.

Does the indicator show its still in 4wd after you press the button to put it back into 2wd? sometimes if on a hard surface it will stick in 4wd a little bit and you may have to turn the wheel, snap the throttle, or throw it in reverse for a second.

I was just going to ask about that. When I sometimes go from 4x4 to 2 wheels it doesn't want to kick out.  Cycling the button usually doesn't work. Accelerating then coming to a stop seems to do it, but I didn't know if there was a specific way you're supposed to go in and out of 4x4.

Doing it on a hard surface you may have to go into reverse or for a second, the driveline on a hard pack surface when in 4x4 has a certain amount of binding so the actuator wont be enough to disengage, you have to create a bit of slack in the driveline for it to pop out, that would be normal, same thing happens in trucks. I usually give a tap on the gas and let off when I disengage, if it doesn't work I will put it in reverse. The diff lock will engage and disengage pretty easily by just turning the steering wheel.
