Roof light mounting options
« on: February 18, 2022, 02:01:56 PM »
Hello out there!  :) I have 2017 Zforce 800 Trail, recently I picked up a 36" Led light bar. The mounts on the light line up perfectly with the two front roof bolts. Perfect! I cant think of any reason why not to mount to the roof mount bolts, the only thing is every photo I've seen people have drilled and mounted through the roof forward of the roof bolts. Is there a reason I'm not aware of why I shouldn't use the bolts to mount? I'd love to hear some input on this as I'm not really a fan of drilling holes. Thanks guys!

Using those two bolts and mounting it high is perfectly fine. For me there were two issues. One, I ride some remote trails that are grown-over and have to work branches over the roof so anything right there would get caught on things that I would have to stop and get out to deal with..if it survived. The other was..and its meaningless as I have never used the lights...as low to the roof as I would mount it, the shadow that would be cast by the roof line would fall somewhere around 30 feet in front of the Z. But mine is only a 24" so it may not apply to yours.

yea that makes a lot of sense. maybe instead ill try to find a way to install under roof and fill in the shadow with a smaller bar on the front bumper.

99% of the people that mount it there like you want are very happy with it..no problems. It's just for me..and the size I went with, I needed something else. Funny..it turns out I didn't even need a light..but it looks cool..I guess.

I cant seem to adjust the high beam or low beam. Its been a while since we had it out, so I forget which one. Thought this may be good for a filler light. Because its a cheap light I might just mount it up there for the hell of it and see how long it lasts. I agree it just looks cool!

In the last few days I installed a 2" Perfex Lift, 2" spacers, and a brand new set of Elkas. I was delighted when to jump on the machine and hear the glorious sound of WHOOSH as the real shocks worked. Good riddance to the dump truck OE shocks.

This light, doors, bolstering my driver seat up, swapping the plastic air filter adapter are still on my punch list for this season.

I know your asking about roof mount, but I found the light bar mounted low worked better as a fill between high and low beam, I have the brush guard on front so mounted light on it, works great for me, actually run light bar on its on at times with plenty of light.

I really like the light bar on the bumper. My only thing is I'm not into drilling holes. I'm going to check if a mounting bracket would fit around the bumper.
