Rodins Doors
« on: September 08, 2017, 02:49:52 PM »
Looking for some advice from anyone who has Rodins doors. For some reason my doors smack the front plastic (just below latch level) when I shut them. I tried loosening all of the mounts to adjust but I just end up with the same result.  From all the pictures I see with these doors installed that doesn't seem to be the case, everything looks to have uniform clearance. Anyone else have trouble with alignment?

I had a little trouble like that. A little different on both sides...which shows the inconsistencies of CFM's framing. First I had to install the latch so I knew how high I could tip the door by sliding the door frame back as far as possible on the upper mount. Then I still has a hair to go so on one side I use a belt sander to reduce the skin overhang and sand the push-pin tops in that contact area. Then on the other side I just had to sand the tops of the push-pins a bit. If I had it to do over again, I might be tempted to adjust the lower frame mounting hole so the whole thing cound just slide back more..but I was lazy at the time and didn't take the lower plastics off..just loosened them and worked through the gap. A bit tough so..it was easier to grab the belt sander...lol

Yeah I agree, moving that bottom mount up and to the right/left would probably do the trick. I can't really complain though, they shut really easy, its just that they scuffed off the decal right on the edge from not being patient and wanting to ride with them on.

Hey, guys, the timing for this thread is perfect, I ordered his doors and some decals on June 16 and the decals really slowed the process down, they got to Miami the first week in August and they just cleared customs in Costa Rica this week, I will finally have them delivered to me next week, been so damn long the excitement about getting them has basically passed and I just want to get them on, I am sure once I get them my attitude will change. I watched the install video and it looks like a simple install but I can't figure out why they took the front fender off...what am I missing, I will pay attention to the alignment and look at the options you have mentioned if I have an issue, any thing else you guys can tell me. Thanks

Bolt onto your Z6 and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. I love having my doors. I don't know what I would have done without them.

Yeah, I watched the video a few times and I couldn't see him do anything up front except attach the latch to the cage, for a while I thought I had drunk too much and then realized it was the Russian who probably drank too much vodka before they shot the video. I have done nothing but work on my machine for 3 months and have hardly driven it, I have a uni behind the seat for the CVT and one in the air box for the engine as well as the Spectre in the cargo box, just following you guys and hoping my riding conditions are not as severe as yours, but even if I do need to do snorkels I refuse to put red shower caps on them ;D. Coloradocrawler you mentioned covering the holes in the floor and gave up on it which surprised me, I started today and when I get the doors and floor done I will post some pictures or maybe a video of all the changes I've made.

Vman,
Do be to hard on the shower caps.....🛀 dust preventing is what it is all about...😎 Plus one could get them in Black. I never showed any pics on what I did for the floor because it is a combination of heated molded plastic and A LOT of duct tape. Functional but not pretty. I will be waiting for your pics on what you came up with.

I hear you about keeping the dust under control, if I get frustrated with it I will pull out the magical silver tape as well, one way or the other I will seal that floor to cut down not only the dust but heat and the noise from the CVT, did they do anything different with the Z8 and later model Z6's. Getting tired of working on it, over the last 3 months I have added so many small mods, from NMK's emergency brake boot to re-routing the crankcase breather to the air filter box and a lot more that you fellows have come up with over the last few years, a couple more to finish and then it's time to start riding.

I refuse to put red shower caps on them ;D.

LOL..OK..I agree..looked pretty .."weird". I took them off for now. I want a realistic check on the amount of dust-ingestion anyway. But...they are in my storage box..just in case :)

You did a great job of installing them, they really give the Z8 a mean powerful look, as someone said almost Mack truckish powerful but it kind of lost some of that with the red shower caps, but sometimes it is function over fashion :)

there is an easy way to make sure your doors don't rub out front by the latch. loosen the bolts on the roll cage in the rear and take a ratchet strap and pull the frame rearward and check your clearance, once satisfied tighten bolts. i have rodin first set of doors shipped to usa they have taken a pounding on my buggie and I mean a abuse and not one rub mark any where!

How far down from the rear roll cage bolts did you run the strap? If I'm understanding you correctly, you pulled the vertical section of the rear door frame toward the back of the bike?
