I noticed that my emergency flashers were only flashing the right directional. Looking at the wiring diagram made it obvious that the problem was at the switch. I got underneath the dash in an attempt to push/remove the switch up through the dash but no joy.

I did manage to wiggle the connections so both directionals are now flashing again, but the question has been raised and needs an answer for future efforts to clean/fix/swap out switches.

What is the secret sauce for removing these switches from the dash?

All rockers like that lock in the same. On each end there are the locks. With a thin piece of plastic..like a credit card work it into each end and push in and at the same time either pull out on the switch on that end or just twist the plastic a little. You can use thin metal but know it may scratch the dash plastic. Do both ends a bit at a time until it get past the locks then it just slides out. Here's a photo. There are several different types but all basiclly work the same way.
