How do I get the steering wheel to let go. I popped the shield and removed the nut holding the steering wheel to the spline. With excessive force I can't get it to let go of the splint. Any tips? Trying to center the steering tires are perfectly straight to each other. Toe is perfect. Steering wheel is at 1-2 oclock. This seems easiest don't wana mess with tie rods.

That's a wedge-fit on that spline. A bit tough but if you take the screws out of the back cover and rotate it, I think you can get to a spot to tap on the base where the splines are while someone is pulling hard on the wheel. Or if you take the wheel completely off the mount you might get a puller in there.

IT IS WAY easier to do on any other spline after the wheel. When I had to do mine I just removed the bolt out of the first U-joint, spread the split a bit with a flat blade and a hammer, then took the two side bolts out of the pivot bracket, pulled it right off, rotated it one spline or so and slipped it right back on...put it back together. Finished centering the wheel with the tie rod adjustments because one spline was just under what I needed and two was way over.

Ok so IDK if they crazy glued the whole thing together but I can't get the steering wheel to let go of the first U joint post. Behind the steering lock. I used a huge flat head. Twisted and preyed. I feel I have done tolerance dmg to this thing trying to get in to let go of either spine. My next door neighbor is a mechanic he used a steering wheel puller on  the top spline and it cracked the hooks on the puller. He was baffled at how stuck it is in there. He said the whole assembly is to frail to hit with small sledge. The first U joint spline you disconnected did you have to distort the metal around the splint to get it to let go? Will the steering wheel pull out and slide through the key lock?

It won't just pull out, you have to remove the two pivot bolts on either side and slide the hole assemply off the spline. I'll make a vid in a second.

You could also remove the clamp bolts by the steering rack, slide up, straighten the wheel, slide down, and reinstall the bolts.

Easiest access is from the top (remove the hood and storage box).

Hey, I know it's been over a year since this video was posted but I'm having the same problem of not getting the steering wheel off my 2019 zforce 800. Any chance you still have the tutorial? Thanks

Why not just adjust the tie rods so the steering wheel is centered?

Thanks for posting the video but I watched that a few days ago to no avail. I even used a gear puller and gave it everything I had but no dice. It was in a front end collision and it appears to be fused on for life. Would adjusting the tie rods work?
