Question about intake setup on 2018 Zforce 800
« on: October 16, 2023, 05:13:01 PM »
Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum, so bear with me please! I just picked up a 2018 Zforce 800 this past weekend. I'm very familiar with cars, having built and raced cars over the years, but these ATVs are different to me.  The zforce I picked up had its intake rerouted, such that there are two pvc pipes coming up through the rear deck of the vehicle. One pipe leads to the left side of the motor, no filter. The other pipe heads to the passenger side and I think enters the airbox where there is a filter.  Hard to say because I couldn't get a clear look without removing the airbox yet, but I presume that it does enter the airbox.

My concern is that the pipes are facing rearward and are sucking in alot of dirty air and one pipe going to the left of the motor doesn't appear to have a filter on it at all.

Is this a 'normal' upgrade or some other hack to get more air to the engine?

Thanks

It is common to have them face rearward. The one that goes to the left side is the CVT intake and it normally doesn't have a filter on it...however my system does. It plugs up often and is a PITA but it does save the clutch parts and belt from excessive wear from all that trash being pumped through. Your good. Just make sure you have the unifilter in the engine air box it and clean it as needed. And use a quality foam filter oil treatment.

Thank you for the response. Good to know it's normal.

The engine consistently dies when it is cold it seems, and sometimes while I'm riding downhill.  Don't know if this is a fuel pump issues or not, but my original thought was to ask about the intake setup.  I've seen other posts regarding the engine dying. Planning on replacing the spark plug and fuel filter, and check the MAF/TB sensor and clean as needed.

Just some info I'll toss in- mine has this habit of dying when I go from any forward drive position to reverse when the Mass airflow/temp sensor gets coated with oil from the unifilter. But ever sence I started blotting a paper towel inside after servicing to get the extra it almost never does it any more. But when it does, I just pull that sensor and blast it clean with a can of mass airflow sensor cleaner and stick it back in. Problem solved until it happens again. It never just stopped when moving but...never hurts to check it.

So that is exactly what I did yesterday. Not knowing the maintenance history on this thing, I replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the MAF and IACV with MAF cleaner and she now starts right up and idles great. MAF was definitely gunked up.  I'll be curious to see how long I can go before having to clean it again.  Not a big deal I suppose, but a better long term solution would be nice.  I ordered a unifilter with the foam oil kit and cleaner.

Thanks again

The info center will have it. The straight ones were getting hard to fine but the angled ones were still out there Try for the straight one first.
