Is it normal for your clutch to make a rattling sound when idling?

I picked up my new (demo model with 750km on it) 2018 CFMoto Z8 EX and have noticed that when it idles, it sounds like there is a rattling sound that comes from the CV Tech clutch. I have spoken to the dealer about this and his response was that all of the CF Moto clutches rattle at idle due to the rollers in the primary are not spring loaded and therefore will rattle when the primary is not spinning. Before I dig into this clutch, I just wanted to see if this loud rattling sound is normal.

In a word, yes. All of them rattle and some knock loud enough especially cold to cause concern. But...I don't think it's the rollers in the primary as mine did it with them and the sliders...and if I hold the RPMs up to about 2K for a short bit, it all but quits. This makes me think it's wet clutch-related and when it gets saturated with oil, it gets quiet. Try it cause it's probably best it gets wet right away and not knock like that for long periods.

NMK,

Thanks for the quick response. This is my first CFMoto and still getting to know the normal sounds that it should be making. :)

Try just leaving it in neutral and holding the RPMs up to the 2-2200 range for a little bit..like 20-30 seconds then let it back down and see how she is. For mine once the wet clutch is well soaked it's pretty quiet.

Thank you. I did find that it get quieter once the motor has run for a little bit.

Don't let the sound of marbles scare you too much when the engine braking kicks in and out either.. That took me a bit to get used to, hard sound to explain but its metallic clunking noise

Mine is a 2020 zforce 800. I had the same sound. It was the primary clutch cushion plate that has the yellow bushings and holds the rollers in. The plate just barely slides on the splines. Figured it was time for a belt since it hadn't been changed from factory. When putting the primary back on the cushion plate wouldn't go on the splines. Looked and the spline groves on plate where worn on the inside. Waiting to see if cfmoto will warranty it.
