We are doing some light trail riding.  After about 10-15 mins The fan comes on as normal when it hits 4 bars on the temp gauge and the gauge goes up two more and stays there. Fan continues to run, but it doesn't cool down. Always up where only two bars left at the top of the gauge. That seems too hot to me.   Is that normal?

I've got about 140 miles on this thing now.  Put the uni filter on and did first oil change at 100 miles.

Not normal. Too hot. Let it cool completely and pull the radiator cap. Ensure it is completely full to the top. While there pull the top on the recovery bottle and make sure it too is to the full line and a little extra for good measure. Run it with the radiator cap off and watch for circulation. When the thermostat opens it will be much more flow. If it doesn't and the fan comes on, there is a problem. Otherwise refill to the top and install the cap. Try it. Three bars are normal. Momentary on four bars is common but the fan cools it right back down to the three. Any more and there is a problem.

Thanks. I just did that and when the fan comes on I do see some swirl where the cap goes so I think that means it's circulating. It's staying at 3 bars on the temp gauge idling for about 30 mins now.   I am going to try this a few times over next couple days. Seems to be ok now but maybe the thermostat is having intermittent issues.  Do they use quality antifreeze or should I change it to be safe?

The OEM coolant is from my understanding not good quality. Most people recommend flushing it out. Ive heard that some dealers put a better coolant in when they assemble them though too so you may want to ask them. I asked my dealer and big surprise they hadn't heard of a coolant issue. Funny what they'll tell customers when they don't know were informed.

My Z almost never goes over 3 bars no matter the heat....it may touch on 4 but in a second its back to three...then the fan shuts off. I did change mine out to Peak several years ago but even before it was the same. Thermostat is in the housing on the head...the front one I believe.
