Looks like I am gonna pick up a 2016 Z800EX EPS tomorrow.

I would like to install the UNI Filter option immediately. I found two part numbers commonly used. Would any of you all be so kind as to clarify which is the correct best fitting option for me please.

Thank You, I already have the cleaner and oil. I run UNI filters in all of my dirt bikes as well. I am searching for info on high mileage Z800EX models. I am really nervous about tomorrows big purchase, and wondering if I should choose the Wolverine R Spec. I keep reading about all of the problems and failures on the Z800ex and have yet to see someone with high mileage (over 6-7k miles) Is there a thread about mileage on these machines?

In fact there is two guys here with that and more on their 800s. One is a Z and the other is a U-force. The R-spec is a very reliable machine. A little lower on performance but if that's more important to you then maybe the Yamaha is a better choice. Nothing beats a Yamaha for reliability.

One guy has 3600 miles on his wolverine to date and no issues reported. I search thru the forum here and find people having issues within the first 500 miles. The guys I will be riding with cover about 200 miles a weekend.

I have the UP-6229ST straight mount. It works great too.

Most of the issues so far have been minor, except for the air filter failure causing engine failure. But, you already have that covered. Make sure all the bolts are tight, change the coolant, and maybe carry a spare thermal switch for the fan with some extra coolant and you'll probably be fine. If you're still worried, go with Yamaha. Remember, any brand can have problems. They're all built by humans. I'd try some shorter rides before going 200 miles with any brand.

My dealer here sells a TON of these machines, & he said the same thing as the other posters here, as long as you change the air filter from the start, the problems they've had have been minimal, and they're a Honda dealer, so people expect pretty high quality stuff. Myself, I'm going to spend the $2400 for an extra 4.5 years of warranty on them, but no matter what; even with the extended warranty; it's a substantially better buy than anything I looked at from CA, Yamaha or Polaris. That being said, MAYBE they're better built, I'm not sure, but at 300+ miles or so on these, we're digging them....they work & drive awesome; fwiw.

For me the warranty really doesnt help me. The closest CF Moto dealer to me is 75 miles away and they just picked up the CF Moto brand. They are actually a GM dealer, so the knowledge regarding the brand and level of mechanical knowledge of the brand is gonna be minimal. Unfortunately, auto mechanics dont really translate well to UTV mechanics.

So if anything goes wrong I would likely just buy the part and fix the machine myself.That being said, I am this way with everything I own regardless if its my dirt bikes,street bikes,trucks,power equipment, etc regardless of brand.... The 150 mile round trip (made twice per instance) would be more trouble than just performing a repair.

Your input is greatly appreciated. Choosing my first sxs vehicle is proving to be a challenge. If I do pick up the Z 800EX the I have a list of things I will do immediately. I do tend to over maintain my toys, but I stack up the miles on my atvs. When I sold my Kawasaki Prairie 650 I bought new it had over 20k miles on it.

1. Install UNI filter.
2. Loctite and torque all arms, and power steering motor
3. Install a manual fan switch
4. Change the coolant to good stuff

I will see if the selling dealer has extra oil filters I can buy while I am there.

There is a round tube that goes between the housing and the filter. It has ridges on one end and is smooth on the other.
The ridge side was exposed and is what the other filter was attached to.

The uni filter would not slip over/fit  the ridges side very well. The angle seemed to be part of the problem. I ended up taking that tubing out and turning it around so that the smooth side (no ridges)  was pointing out of the housing.  The filter fits now, but I wonder if there is a reason for the tube being arranged as it was originally, and if I'm making some a mistake or doing something incorrectly.

I'm hoping that it just doesn't matter.

You are OK. We all have to turn the tube around. Hell, I took my lip off completely..even the one in the center so I could use my oversized filters and adapters.
