So if I were to cut a corner here and cut the tip off the current stock exhaust and weld on a larger tip for more sound would that put me outside the range of back pressure to operate the zforce 800 correctly. Does the zforce have really tight tolerances? I know I can buy the programmer and will eventually however I really need doors first and want that throatier sound.
Any reccommendations?

doubt that will change the flow enough to require programming. you can just remove the whole thing and see what happens

It would be illegal in NH to modify the exhaust to be louder than stock, or to run without a spark arrester.

I assume other states have similar restrictions.

I can tell you from experience that if you remove the spark arrester and end completely it will reduce the back pressure enough that it will run too lean. See my writeup in the How Tos. When I just put the 2" tip on it with nothing else it was so lean it lost power, ran hot and the plugs were pure white. When I added back in the HMF spark arrester screen, it took it back into its range but just barely. It's still close.. on the lean-side but that's OK for this altitude. If I had to go any lower then 5000 feet I would have to put my OE end back on.

I agree with NMKawi....ANY modification to the exhaust puts it out of its safe range.  You need a fuel controller if your going to do anything.  These things straight out of the box are on the lean side.  I run an A/F meter all the time and I can tell you for a fact that the above is a true statement.

As stated before, check your laws. Most states its illegal to remove it. Federal lands for sure. Sometimes your on federal land and don't even know it.

Legality is no concern of mine NH ME or California. I'm not worried about the law. However, I do want to keep it in range. In my eyes and a lot of others loud pipes safes lives. I live by that and always will. I also run a air fuel meter chuddly. Guess I'll be buying a fuel controller and get in touch with HMF and have them spec me an exhaust.

I agree. We as humans must take every precaution possible to ensure no fires are caused by our activities. It is simply our responsibility. If you have to have the noise, and your laws allow it, fine, just do it with a spark arrestor.

Let me literate on this immoral thought of yours glenlivet. I obviously wouldn't remove and throw out the "SPARK ARRESTER" we all understand what it does!
However there are other spark arrresters on the market (several after market exhaust companies produce)  that will give you more air flow. So in other words don't worry. I'm not gonna ride your trails in BC and start forest fires.
Furthermore, not running a spark arrester doesn't add any power to the machine. Dyno proven.

As a trailmaster, I assume you are aware that one of the major reasons why private landowners (at least up here in NH) close their lands to ATV use is noise. Public trails that run close to neighborhoods are often restricted or closed when the owners get together to complain about the noise.

While "louder pipes save lives" is a nice slogan, it doesn't really apply to these machines as they are already plenty loud. More isn't always better or safer. But then, you can't get any safer than a trail closed due to noise considerations.

I think the proper flag..(size,color and height)..might also be a solid way to save lives on busy trails. I know this is true on dunes but I also see them pretty easily on most trails. Even I am starting to run one..granted its a black one and harder to see in the woods but..it's seams to be a valid idea anywhere.

Who is this guy? Talking like he knows it all? Well in my opinion... loud pipes do save lives.. I wouldn't be here today if it didn't. So slogan that dougie.. I nearly lost my life so yeah to your opinion it doesn't matter to me.
I race this buggy. That's what I do with it. I wasn't asking for your opinion on why it shouldn't be done. If you read the original post I asked if it would be safe for the machine. I received the answer I was looking for. I am as well a trailmaster but not with this particular machine.
