After going thru initial fluid and air filter checks - I did not check the belt because I decided to test this in the neighborhood and TOMORROW on some desert riding BEFORE I remove NUMEROUS bolts on the cover to inspect.

Anyway, she ran WONDERFULLY and I had to "shut down" my speed around 50+ MPH as my neighborhood is only 35 MPH. I am VERY impressed with it on the open road BUT
the REAL TEST will be on the DESERT RUN, tomorrow.

I have two observations and questions:

1) I inspected and found a VERY CLEAN exhaust AND throttle body SO why do I SEEM to smell some exhaust at idle or slower speeds?
2) It SEEMS like the engine noise is "a little" noisy BUT I have NO experience with other 800 EXs' OR a Polaris RZR, for that matter. Can some of you
let me know if I am being "nit-picky" here AND is there anyway to quiet the engine WITHOUT REDUCING or HINDERING performance of the engine?
3) What octane should I run in it?

I will try to upload some pictures of the unit - EVERYTHING looks LIKE NEW, except the tires that show some wear. Since I traveled from Las Vegas to
Phoenix to buy it, it may have been driven on the street some of it's life because Phoenix allows for driving this class of vehicle on their streets

I will send an update on our SECOND DESERT RUN soon

Thank-you, in advanced, for your responses - lvflyer

Overhead cam engines are noisy. A noisy engine is a happy one. If you here a noise like a loose chain rattling around, then worry.

On your first question, these have a closed-loop EFI system so it will run a little rich until the O2 sensors get to the correct temperature. Then it should lean down some but you will always smell a little on these even though some feel they run too lean. The other think is- that grill between the seats is where the air intake for the engine is and at the factory they slide a prefilter over the end. Its is the dustiest area there is as the tires toss a lot of stuff against that wall. If no one had cleaned that prefilter in a while, your engine may not be getting enough air...and that as you know makes for a rich condition. 4 push-pins and its off. I'd check it.

Secondly, that grill also is direct access to the engine and all it's noises, dust and fumes but can't seal it off until you port the intake out of there...and you will...someday. Most of us have already done that. Not only can you sound-proof that grill but the engine sure likes not getting all that hot air from the engine and the air filters go a lot longer between cleanings. Exhaust-wise, if it still has the stock exhaust you can do a mod like I did to mine and install a Benz silencer when needed. I like how quiet it makes it but..you can hear a lot more little noises that make you worry...so..I don't run it except when the wife is with me. :)  If it has an aftermarket pipe...well that are just noisy.

Thank-you, NMKawierider - I took the plastic grill off with the 4 plastic pins. Is there supposed to be anything behind it, filter, etc. because there was not?

You should see the back side of the intake tube that runs down to the airbox. The intake on that tube faces the rear and the prefilter is just a bag that slides over it. In this photo you will see the back side of mine. Yours should look the same...except yours won't have the screw on the top or the clamp.

Yes I see that. What am I supposed to clean AND what did you do to yours with the hose clamp?

There is supposed to be a black prefilter bag over the end of that pipe. slide it off, clean it then reinstall. That shot was from when I had my first external filter ported to the outside. It's all in the how tos.

the noise and some exhaust smell is because of the grill in the cabin as others said.
Run 93 octane

Just a couple of things to check before you take it out into the sand and dust. Make sure you are not running the stock filter from CFMoto (paper filter) and you are running a Uni or Twin air foam filter.  The stock filters will fail and cause and engine burn down also yes run 93 octane non-ethanol.  I have also re-routed my air intake system to the bed and put a pre-filter on the intake.  Seems to really like the air now not trying to suck it thru the small intake on the side of the seat and keeps the air filter a little cleaner. Happy riding!!

These ARE a "little noisey" and do have a bit of fume smell when starting until warmed up. I know there has been reports of 68-72 mph, but mine (2015 800EX) with full front and back windows runs at 55 mph. After talking to the service manager at my dealer said he has only been able to get them up to 60mph down the hill in front of their shop. So not sure if the extra weight and width combined with the drag of the windows slows it down, but in the end, I do not need 60-70 mph. lol
And couldn't agree more with replacing the stock air filter. I got a UNI filter from my dealer and works great.
Also running 87 octane in mine and really do not see a difference from the 91 0r 93 octane. No more or less noise or power or speed.
I'd order an extra thermo switch for it and get a switch to wire up a fan over ride. Seems to be one of the main issues with these. (NMKawierider has the information in the "How To'' section)
I will be doing this shortly.
Good luck and congrats on your new buggy!!

I have a 2016 800ex, I did a speed test down my road I got to 70mph. 60-70mph takes quite a while to creep up on mine, no front or rear windshield though. I would recommend you run higher octane though these are higher compression engines, you may not be able to hear a spark knock but if its there you will cause premature wear and excess heat in them pistons!  Extra few bucks at the pump is worth your pistons/rings
