Coolant Leak
« on: May 22, 2017, 07:29:25 AM »
I tried to find the past post about this but was unsuccessful.

I have had a slight leak around that clear tube near the water pump assembly on the right hand side of the engine since my purchase last August. Some people on here noted a similar leak that stopped with time once a seal of some sort "seated" with break in. Well mine never stopped so I took it to the purchasing dealer. He replaced the water pump seal last week with no change in the green drops on the floor. CF Moto has now sent him a complete water pump assembly to try. Keeping the fingers crossed.....updates to follow.

The complete assembly is the way to go and is CFM's recommended fix.

Had the same issue. It never stopped leaking and was causing overheating problems so I ended up replacing all the internal parts in the water pump. Only been on one ride since but it hasn't seemed to leak in in my garage like it did before.

I don't see any leaks on my floor but for some odd reason I have had to fill my coolant reservoir twice now.  The first time i filled it i figured it just didn't have quite enough in it from the factory, so I filled it to the top line when it was cold.  Since then I put about 100 miles on it and it was almost empty again. The last time I filled it, I popped the radiator cap and it was full. Had about 3/4 of an inch in the reservoir. Anyone else having this happen?

On many of these the mechanical seal on the water pump leaks for a while then stops. It sometimes collects on the inspection plate right under the weep and doesn't get to the floor. Might take a look there. Just look straight down from the pump housing. If there is nothing there check the plug(s) for the color-signs of a head gasket leak. The exhaust tip will also appear black and wet..ish.

Definitely found a pool of coolant laying on the frame under the water pump and it definitely pushes coolant out the weep hose while its running... yay.

Well..sounds weird but that's good news...lol She's normal. Keep it full of coolant for a while and if it doesn't quit in a hundred miles, better take it in. Side note: when mine was leaking I read somewhere someone added some Prestone to the radiator and his quit leaking. So I also did that...and mine quit as well. I later changed out all mine.

update: Called the dealer and after telling him the mileage he said to bring it in and they would rebuild the water pump. He said they might have it done by Thursday, so if I get it back for a weekend ride I'll be able to see how that works out.

My 800EX has been in the shop for sometime....not in a need/rush for it so the time frame doesn't matter. The dealer finally got a complete water pump kit that apparently didn't fix the drip. He took one out of a 800 Trail in-stock and the problem per the dealer has been remedied. Riding and time will tell after I pick it up.
