Clutch backshift
« on: September 07, 2020, 03:03:03 PM »
Has anyone figured out how to get these clutches to backshift yet? Is there an adjustable aftermarket secondary available? Ive tried different roller in the primary, currently using the 24 gram, clocked the secondary in several different positions, seems the b2 works best. Any thoughts

Backshifting on these is...or can be a problem. With the helix riding on ramps like it does the more pressure it has...both from the preloades spring or the load, the harder it is for it to slide on those ramps. Bad design if you ask me. Others use rollers, levers or a lubricated helix is some way that pressure isn't a factor. I have..however..found a compromise. By not going over board on tire weight using 27s and only using either C1 or B2, I have been able to polish the helix and the plastic ramps and add a touch of weapons-grade graphite to the surfaces. To keep it there and stop the dust from trashing..my second set of the pads.. I have added a filter to the CVT intake...which is a royal PITA as it has to be cleaned every 30 road miles or so to keep enough airflow moving to NOT toast the belt. But...the payoff is consistent clutch operation and..yes, back or downshifting on demand every time.

Thanks NMK, it has been awhile since i have cleaned the clutch up, this past weekend was the first time in a year that ive been out of town with it and for the most part it worked pretty good but when on the hiway going from trail to trail pulling long mountain hills it struggled, just pulled the rpms down. I guess i was hoping someone was making a roller secondary for it by now, something where helixes could be changed out to get it to work the best it can. You know the engines make good torque and with proper clutching it could really be an animal.

Yeah...with a good set of clutches these would be a very different animal. Heck, even the primary- using sliders or rollers on the primary against a cam plate is high friction. Using the sliders instead of the rollers and with the graphite helps those too :)

Wow clutches were very dirty, spent a couple hours cleaning and polishing all moving components, took NMKs lead and used graphite on all friction related areas. thanks for the heads up!  Also ordered a Dobeck EJK, going to do my own exhaust mod.
