Change in shocks after Lift kit?
« on: September 06, 2021, 11:50:49 PM »
So I recently added 2 inch lift and once I got everything on I took it for a ride and man did it ever change the handling.  It now has a lot of teetering with just slight turn of the wheel or any curve.  Honestly it feels squirrely all the way around.  Like it a lot better more stiff. Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanks!

Many people back the preload off a little after adding a lift kit to re-gain some suspension movement and drop it slightly. Also the toe-in will be off so that needs re-set. Keep it close to zero with just a slight toe-in of like 2 or 3/32" total. Also lifting narrows the wheel width so people also add 1.5" wheel spacers to get that back out there and take care of some of that tippy feel. You can also replace the mushy rubber sway bar bushings with polyurethane bushings which will force the bar into acting more like a torsion bar from the very start and take that initial body roll action out. It is stiffer however and some bars have broken over time. Mine hasn't yet but I don't run a lift kit. Unfortunately the lift kit and the wheel spacers are going to shorten the life of knuckle and a-arm bushings, wheel bearings, ball joints and CV joints..but.. that's the price you pay for that 1.75"+- gain. :)

Thanks again for the info, very very helpful.  I did get 1.5 spacers but tried to put those on today but could  only get the lug nut provided to go on half way about 5 1/2 turns.  Do I have bad spacers or is this a normal thing for cf moto?

I do have spacers. Most times when people are having the problem you are it's because the spacer they have was made for hub-centric mounting not lug-centric like we have. Of the spacers you have have a flange on one side and the inset holes for the OE studs are not drilled with a taper at the top, its the wrong ones. Mounted they should look like mine. Here's a pic:

Post a pic of what you have...both sides. It may also be the wrong pattern. Has to be 4/110 x 4/110

That recessed ridge on the back with no flange on the front tells me that this set was made to convert from hub-centric to lug-centric and if that is the case.. the studs will be too short. This may be what's going on with others that have had the same issue. Can you post a link to where you got these?

These are the ones I used:

NMK, I ordered a set of the Spacers from the link you sent and they fiit perfect but after I got the wheel back on I noticed the posts were too long for the factory lugnuts.  Just checking if you had the same problem and what lugnets did you use?  Thanks!

No..I didn't. I used the lugs that came with it to mount the spacer to the hub and the OE lugs to mount the wheels to the spacers. No problems. I also have another set of lugs from some ITP wheels I had that also fit fine.

I ordered some quadboss lugnuts that should fit but was curious on whether to use the factory CF lugnuts or the open end ones that came with to mount to hub?

Probably need some open ones. One of the issues is that CVMoto's wheels are way thinner then others. When I put my ITP wheel of my Brute on the moto to test how the Grim Reapers worked on it, I noticed not only was there a lot less stud sticking out on the Moto through the ITP wheels, but I could not use the ITP closed lugs to mount the CFMoto wheels on the Brute force as the studs bottomed-out before getting tight. I had to put my old stock open lugs on just to get it off the jacks.
