bushing spacers
« on: August 25, 2021, 05:40:31 PM »

I need to replace the metal spacer that goes into the suspension bushings.

Is this something that I could find someplace local, like a hardware or specialty store? Or do I need to order these from a CFMoto parts supplier?

Thanks to CFMoto, those are slightly different then what everyone else uses however...I was able to use some of my old sleeves with my new bushings. They were not as tight as I would have preferred but they did work...so the...I believe 5/8" sleeve stock that I used with the new bushings would probably work. You will have to cut them to length yourself as I did..exactly so it fits tightly between the two mounts. Get the length you need by measuring between the two mounts and order the closest longer you can find. I got mine off ebay. There are different lengths. 5/8"OD x 3/8"ID is what I used. Seems I had to bore the inside slightly for the OE bolt to fit through...might be wrong about that. Just to be clear, I have not tries to use these with the CFMoto bushings so might try one and see. Here's a link to one length:

The stock sleeves appear to be 16mm OD by 10.1mm ID.

I wonder if Polaris or Yamaha use the same size.

Polaris uses..or used to use.. the 5/8" OD and I wouldn't think Yamaha would use anything but something metric

That's worth considering.

The OEM spacer spec is 16mm OD X 10mm ID and they measure pretty close to that.

Measured by digital caliper:

The original sleeves measure at 16MM in the middle, but there is considerable wear where the bushing makes contact with the sleeve; up to .25 mm loss.

The new bushings ID is 16.22mm or .6385.  5/8 = .625 so a nice fit.

The bolts are 9.8mm  or .3858 inches. 3/8 ID is .375 inches so  3/8 ID will be a bit to small.
Perhaps replacing the bolts with 3/8 equivalent would fix that issue.

The problem is that I can't find round sleeve/spacer stock anywhere around here, English or Metric, so I'm left with having to order from the internet.

I like the idea of the tighter fit of 5/8 OD, but with nothing in front of me to prove the concept ....

I'm thinking about buying 6 to 8 long sleeves/spacers from Mortch ( 9" long, $4.13 each), and cut to length as needed. Shipping will be steep $40 but still cheaper and faster delivery than ordering from inside the states.

But I'd really like to find a harder steel bushing from OEM. Decisions, decisions ....

In the meantime, I have to put it back together with the worn sleeves :-(

When I was re-installing my LR wheel after the new battery I noticed some play developing...again :( ...in the knuckle bushings. I'm sure it's due to the wheel spacers but I'll have to do something about them..yet again. I sent two emails to Garage Products about a set for the Zs but got no response. Any one else been able to make contact with them? Really would like a set of their bushing and sleeve sets.
Oh and it was cake to drill-out the 3/8" sleeves to use the OE bolts. Wasn't much to cut at all. Took just seconds.

But the OEM sleeves are cheaper the way I'm going ...

I wish I could find a good source for 9" 5/8 x 3/8 sleeves for a reasonable price. I only want to buy a bundle so I never have to search again. I assume the other bushings are suffering the same fate as the ones I've pulled (Rear knuckle bushings). I may harden them myself.

Looks like GP is out of stock :-(

Tried Garage Products a couple times for bushings.  No response, either.
