That is a weep and the tube is there to slow intrusion of mud and water from getting into the weep area between the two seals. Either coolant or oil can come out that hole depending on what seal is leaking...so the mechanical seal for the coolant is leaking on yours. If it isn't already, that tube needs to be hanging straight down so that coolant won't fill the chamber and ride on the oil seal on the other side.

Now they have had some problems with the mechanical seals on these and most were leaking when new but stopped within a couple of hundred miles as the seal broke in. Others started leaking after a few hundred miles and had to be replaced while others that did this stopped when their owners flushed and switched-out the factory coolant for good-ole Prestone as many pre-2015 machines had a very cheap coolant that actually turned to jell in the water jackets.

So, make the tube hang down?? I have to check but I believe it comes down and then back up.  A "U" shape if you will. I think the open end is actually tied up.

Yep, and that's as wrong as it can be. That chamber must drain...and it can't with the tube up.

Mine doesn't have the tube-just an open hole. I think I am going to put what Kawasaki puts on theirs which is just a tube with a plastic bulb on the end hanging near straight down. I'll post pics when I do. You guys with tubes just have to get the bulb and slip it on. You can see it hanging under the water pump in this image:

Heck , may just get a small in line gas filter and put in the end of the tube. That way it still "seeps" out, but won't let anything in.

Yeah that's about all it is. Just if it has a check valve, disable it. Heck I think I'll just get one of those cause the Kawie-thing is like 8 bucks.

What's the harm of one were to let it go for a while?

With just small leakings many do for a while but know that every time it cools down it will draw the lost amount back in from the recovery bottle and you MUST keep it full. And when cold do check the radiator by actually pulling the cap and making sure there is no airgap at all. I found on mine that as soon as it started drawing-in my local-bought coolant, the leaking mechanical seal stopped. I then changed-out all of it to 50/50 Peak. No leaking sense.
