Odd thing about the hazard lights on my Canadian '17 Trail 800, they only work when the key switch is on! Kind of defeats the purpose, or at least makes them less useful as who wants to leave the keys in their vehicle if it's disabled or parked perforce in a place it might be a hazard?

That is odd, and the winch is live all the time.

Replying to an old post, but the reason the hazard lights don't work without the key on is because if you leave it unattended, it will completely drain the battery over time.  Unless you have some other means of starting it, you want to protect the battery charge.  The reason the winch is live all the time is because the rig is attended when using the winch, so you can stop using the power when it is getting to the point of not being able to start the motor.

Do you know that the manufacturer made this conscious decision to activate hazard lights only when the key is on, for the stated reason?

For a manufacturer to supply hazard lights that only work when they key is on and the machine cannot safely be left alone, is rather silly and redundant (they will kill a car battery eventually too) so my guess in the matter is that someone in design didn't quite think it through.  ;)

Yeah lets say the fuel pump went out or.. some sensor..or the engine blew along a roadway. By leaving the key on and not running the engine will take out the ECU and probably the coils in time adding hundreds of dollars to your repair bill. I think running the battery down in 4-6 hours is the least of your worries. Personally I wouldn't bother with any hazard lights unless there was a possibility of someone else getting hurt but I certainly wouldn't leave my key on just to run them...but then I ride with friends and always got my tow strap under the seat...lol

Mine's a Po strap.  ;D Fits on the back. Anyway I agree, the Hazard lights are good for when I'm showing off the machine and listing the stuff it has. If it broke down on a trail and someone is going to hit it they'll likely hit whether there are blinking signals on it of not. :)

I would like a little clarification here please...

In this string, there is talk about the parts needed.  Most references are to a "relay" but Emerson is the only one that talks about a "flasher".

Since these are low power LED lights, am I incorrect in assuming that you don't need a "relay" circuit, but instead all references to the relay are actually meaning the flasher?

Gwingo posted pictures of the component which I believe to be the flasher, and I have the same component installed in that location.

In the Fuse/Relay box, there is a fuse location (with 10 Amp fuse installed) that is marked "Signal Control".  I'm assuming this is for the turn signal circuit and since it is 10 Amp, it would be the actual circuit and NOT a control circuit???

It appears that I have everything I need except for the rocker switch and the lights, both front and rear.

Next...  There are 2 vacant switch slots on the right side of the console,  1 horizontal and 1 vertical.  Again, I am assuming these are for the factory installed turn signals and hazard lights.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

More questions later, but they will depend on the answers I get here.

I have found a plethora of information in this forum and I am grateful to each and every one of you that has contributed to my enlightenment!  How is that for big words?  I don't always talk that way, I'm really just an old hillbilly.   ::)

Everything I needed was already on the z800  (2017 model built late 2016).

All I had to do was install the lights and the rocker switches, and it all just worked :-)

Doug,
You said switcheS.  Is there more than 1 switch for this upgrade?

Probably have one-ON-OFF-ON for the turn signals and one -ON-OFF for the hazard lights..just guessing though. :)

Did anybody take a pic of the CFMOTO turn signal switch?  Curious what the pigtail side looks like.  Plan on doing the turn signal mod, but didn't want to hack up the wiring under the dash.  I think I can source the sumitomo plugs.  I'm not dropping $500 on this mod, so I'll be using LEDs for the signal lamps.

Thanks!

I was thinking I saw somewhere they just use an ON-OFF-ON rocker switch with the flasher relays. If so, then this is the back of the typical ON-OFF-ON switch.

And this might the the front side:

That's helpful, thx.  But, I still would like to see the part from CFMOTO.  I've been over the web and haven't found a good pic.

Thanks.  I was hoping to see the back side of the switch with the pigtail/wiring.  I found this online.  Look familiar?

Just 4 wire leads going into the pigtail?  Or is it 3?  2 of them may be joined prior to getting to the pigtail.
