2021 800ex oil pressure light flashing
« on: August 11, 2023, 03:22:59 PM »
I have a 2021 800ex the oil pressure light flashes 6 or 7 times when I first start it up. Then when the engine warms up 10 to 15 minutes at idle it will start flashing and only stops when you push the gas peddle. Once it idles back down it starts flashing again its been to two different dealers for this problem. The first dealer told me it was low on oil witch I now it was not because I just completed the breakin fluid changes. So I called CFmoto and customer service was no help at all the worst customer service experience. They told me the only option I had was to take it to a different dealer. So I did they CFmoto had Them changed the pressure switch the oil pump and put 10w50 oil in it. Did not fix it so CFmoto told them they do not know what is wrong with it and to tell me to ignore the light and keep driving it. Called Customer service again and no help they said my dealer was my only option when I mentioned legal action he hung up on me that is a great way to treat a customer who purchased 3 four wheelers and 3 side x sides in a year and a half. Any ideas how to solve the issue would be great full
Thanks Don

They flash for several reasons-1-the oil pressure is actually low...below like 8psi and usually at idle. This can be because of several reasons-1-the relief valve has junk in it and is stuck partly open, 2-the oil pump got damaged somehow but you say they replaced it,3-the rod bearings are failing and loose enough to bleed-off system pressure, and 4- believe it or not the oil cooler can be blocked with junk from manufacturing. Yes, this has happened to several other members. You need to pull the pressure switch and install an actual gauge so you know what it is. And if low, need to check the relief valve and oil cooler. On the oil cooler you can rig a bypass line. I have to ask...is the engine making and low light knocking sounds at idle that intensify right when you touch the throttle? If so...it's a rebuild.

Thank for your reply. Went to the dealer today to pickup my machine and talk to the tech working on it. He has replaced the pressure sensor switch and installed a new oil pump still has same issue. CFmoto has no idea what is causing the issue the engine sounds good no knocking. The tech put a pressure gauge on it and it reeds 13 to 14 psi when driving it when he lets of the throttle it drops to 7 psi and light flashes. The tech did say it could be the rod bearings failing and the only way to tell is to tare down the motor. The extended warranty company wants me to sign off if nothing is found I am responsible for the cost of it that is not happening. The machine has 4 more years of warranty on it so the dealer tech told me to run it and if something in the engine is failing it will show up. I will be contacting CFmoto on Monday will update when I have any info

That narrows it down to..a stuck relief valve, a failing rod bearing or a plugged oil cooler. Why don't you bypass the cooler and see if it quits flashing at idle. Really should put a gauge on it though. If it doesn't, just know not only is the pressure down but the volume will as well. That means not only that 13psi isn't enough under hard, hot loading but the cooling that the oil does is also greatly reduced...see at any given time 94 percent of the oil is being used for heat dissipation. Only about 6% is being use as lubricant. You may be able to get to that relief valve without pulling it down. You can on the new ones. It's just a plug on the case with a ball and spring behind it. Otherwise I guess just run it until it goes...and it will sooner or later.
