Where does this cable connect to
« on: July 14, 2017, 06:18:30 PM »
My wife says I am too proud to ask for directions and after an hour or so of looking at an 18" cable and still not finding the other end I have swallowed my pride and I am asking for directions.

I can't see the end of it, but looks bigger. There is a harness up higher with a big rubber sleeve. Might go there. I can check mine in the morning if you like. Get a pic of the end so I know what I'm looking for.

I appreciate the help. It does not connect under that cover, it is connected at the bottom of the crankcase, maybe a low oil sensor? I will post a picture of the connector later tonight.

Coming off the engine there are only a few electrical things like the A/C generator, oil pressure, Neutral & Reverse light...ect. Is there anything "not" working?

NMK, everything seems to be working fine I am not getting any error codes. The cable is connected to a sensor at the bottom of the crankcase below and to the left of the oil dipstick, do you know what that sensor is?

Let's take a look in the Z6 service manual. I have one...and you can download one from here under the Z6 section. Has to be in there unless your engine was a test engine at the factory and they put some extra sensor on it.

I took the picture of the cable connecting to the engine from the service manual, but I cannot find what the sensor is or where this cable connects to, I also checked all of the parts diagrams on Alpha Sports website and can't find this sensor either.

Apologies to Cosmosdan, in addition to being proud my wife also tells me I am very hard headed maybe I should start listening to her. It was hidden in the top of the big rubber sleeve, I had looked earlier but apparently didn't look well enough, I pulled the throttle body and the complete air intake system, I am not sure how it would have come loose, oh well at least I am learning about my machine.

Ok, good. So the speedo wouldn't have worked which would have told us.

True, I didn't want to run it under load so I just ran it in the garage, when I found out the cable was connected to the speed sensor I ran it up the driveway and the speedo was not working, I had spent so much tine looking around the engine without finding it I went back toCosmosdan's suggestion and looked under the rubber sleeve that has a number of connections in it and spotted the connector

I get that way sometimes. After I walk away for a bit, I come to the decision to retrace my steps (calmly) and find most of the problems. Glad you found it.
