skid plate
« on: April 18, 2016, 11:51:04 AM »
Does anyone happen to have a pattern for a skid plate that they would be willing to share? I would like to cut one out of aluminum but my stock one is to broken up to be useful as a pattern and i dont want to shell out 700 bucks for the iron baltic although it looks like a great product

How broken-up is it? I ask because where I got the steel for my rock sliders/belly armor, they told me when I was ready to replace the center plastic skid and if it was flat...which is pretty much is, to bring it in and they would put it on their scanning table, scan it in and then cut a duplicate out of aluminum with their water jet. Mounting and drain holes included for about 200 bucks.  Maybe you have something like that there. Of course..how much is a new one?

The center is flat. The sides are bent and a box is welded to them as well. I still have the factory skids if someone wants them.

I checked USPS and it was almost $90. Seems steep to me. I can take some pics with a tape if all you need are the hole locations.

A friend of mine made one for his machine.  I asked him to give it the hammer test he said he couldn't break it

Update I ended up making a skid plate out HDPE 1/4" thick found at Menards for around $50. I took the machine to Ride Royal Blue and bounced it off some rocks and mud. Not one crack of course it scratched but no cracks or dents.

your Iron baltic skid comes all the way out to the side of the machine. The stock skid only goes to the frame rails. Outside the frame rails is a metal skid with my limited fabrication skills i just copied the stock skid which doesnt have the "baskets"

The baskets are what catch up on everything. They get pretty mangled. I don't have the welding skills to do the side plates right so I bought them.

And I can say making them even with steel is a big PITA and very heavy as well...heavy enough that I am considering the Iron Baltic's even more these days but..I will also say it is nice no not rip-off those baskets every time you get a little close or high centered. I have caught them on many things already and aside from taking the paint off the plates, all is well. So..some protection is necessary...but something less then 50lbs worth of steel would be nice....lol

If given the proper motivation, I would cut them out. It would be some work but they kill my ground clearance.

One side is just the extra battery box but the other is the outside edge of the gas tank.
