HandBrake operation
« on: October 18, 2021, 10:12:51 AM »
Hey,
Can anyone explain how the hand brake system works on these machines?
I have a 600 snyper, the handbrake dosent hold at all. Checked all cables are moving
freely and not binding, all mechanisms on caliper is free, pads are barely worn, but piston
does not move to stop bike when hand brake is applied, what am I missing, is the piston
involved in the handbrake process?

Thanks

The hand or parking brake on the Z6 is a little different from the Z8 because it has two cables that go from the hand lever to each rear brake calipers. Both are the same in that the cable(s) operate a cam plate that causes the caliper to pull-in and pinch the pads to the rotor. Although the cables have an adjustment, the cam plates also have an adjustment that needs to be set first. Then the cables can be adjusted. It should also be noted that CFM has a problem with their caliper slides. They corrode and sieze-up. When this happens the caliper can only apply pressure to one brake pad, both with the e-brake and the hydraulic system.
