Cables all looked fine just to be sure I put my old battery in her machine with all brand new cables. She doesn't have 5 miles on it. And it did the same thing as it did in mine.. I've been working on cars motorcycles and atvs for years I have never seen anything act this way makes no sense

Me too...ol-well, the proof is in the pudding I guess. Maybe directly without having to activate the solenoid it had enough to rotate the starter but for some reason it could not fully close the solenoid so it just clicked. So strange....because you did jump it with another battery.

yes I jumped it with my truck battery with the truck not running of course.. anyway new batterys in she runs like a champ

I know this is an older thread but i wanted to inform you of why this happened.  You can have weak cells in a battery that test fine under no load.  Then when they get under load (starting the engine)  they fall flat on their face and cant turn the motor over.  As I was reading through this i knew exactly what your problem was.  Testing a battery with a multi meter will not give you a true test of the batteries health.  You need to test it with a load tester (its basically an 12v electric heater wire that runs the battery power through it to heat the wire and put a load on it) otherwise you will never really know.

I believe he also said he bridged the battery terminals on the starter relay and it did start. That load should have pulled a bad battery down too...I would think. That's why I was confused.

I'm glad you replied, as I am in charge of UPS (battery backups for computers) repair/replacement at work, and I routinely run into these batteries that test fine on a multi, but do not pass a self test that runs once a week. Even the expensive load tester at a local battery shop doesn't catch most of the defective batteries that I bring them. 

As stated before I changed out the battery and it has been fine ever since. 2 things didn't make sense to me 1. I jumped the starter relay and it started right up no hesitation on just the bad battery not jump start 2. I tried jumping it with a 12 volt battery I know is good it starts my truck everytime and it would not start. All that being said it has been running great on the new battery. I knew the multimeter was not the best way to test the battery but its all i had and i could not hold the leads on the battery and hit the starter i was out of hands
