C force hard steering
« on: January 12, 2016, 06:48:34 PM »
I have ridden most everything out there and I have never driven anything this hard to steer.  Feels like the diff lock is stuck on and the tires are flat.   I know the diff isn't stuck because it gets harder in 4x4 and with the diff lock.
Prob just poor geometry but wondering if anyone else has noticed this.  I think they might have known this was an issue because the handlebars feel like they are if a heritage softail classic.

Jack the front up and check the steering. If it is smooth than it might be an alignment problem. Another thing is worn tires but that thing is too new for that.

On other ATVs, dry or warn steering stem bushings make it feel like it's in a bind under load and not too bad when you get the wheels off the ground. Might take a look there too.

Jacked up it even turned hard.   I'll tryout long the wheels off and start unhooking stuff from the knuckles.  I'll let people know what I find.  I hope.  Thanks

I'm also prematurely going with stem bushing not lubed or assembled wrong.

Have sold 4 of these units so far this year, and have not run into any steering issues. I'm guessing improper assembly or improper PDI.

Sent two people out for test rides on 400 in the past month. Both came back with the same complaint.

Just got one of the 400s on the lift to check on the hard steering. Removed the brake calipers. No change in steering difficulty.  Removed the tierod ends.  Handlebars fall from side to side freely.  Feels like the cv boots are crazy stiff. Weird.   That's as far as I'm going.   No issues with PDI.

Too tight at the cup, ball joints? Not unheard of. They get staked in too hard and just don't move easily. You will need to push the cv out of the spindle to check them.
