Dashboard Issue
« on: June 07, 2020, 02:33:00 PM »
Friday night I took a ride and ended up losing my dashboard display and all lights. After a LOT of tear down and checking electrical finally found the problem was the fuse (the fuse cover does not identify the fuse as the dashboard fuse). Replaced the fuse and put it all back together. Took it for a ride and no more than 5min into the ride the dashboard goes blank again. Continue driving to get home and it seemed like it shut off and then came back to the rpm I had it at.

Can anyone give me any insight as to what could be blowing the dashboard fuse repeatedly?

All I can tell you is that fuses blow because the amp draw through that circuit exceeds the fuse's rating. Could be a short, could be an internal problem with the pod, could be an arcing connection including a loose ground. Being that new I would take it in. But being that it doesn't always do it immediately tends to make me lean toward a loose connection or ground somewhere.

Well I was thinking it might be the dashboard itself. I have checked all of the wiring and it all looks to be good.

So I've done some looking at what is going on and I am trying to figure out what the "position light" is. It is on the same fuse as the dashboard. The other circuits are pretty much self explanatory on the fuse.

Edit:
Ok I did a search in the service manual and figured it out.

Finally found the issue..... After tearing just about the whole machine apart. The dealer had to replace my rear diff. and I think they routed the wire for the license plate light wrong or too tight. It rubbed on the heat shield for the muffler and wore the wire casing off and then wore through the wire insulation.

So that is why it only did it while running and I couldn't reproduce it while not running. The vibration from the engine running would make it contact only once in a while.

Thanks.  Time to inspect wire insulation again.
