Wheel bearings worn
« on: May 04, 2021, 06:43:34 PM »
Went on a trip over this past weekend.  On the second day of trail riding I discovered the right front wheel bearing was showing some major wear.  The left side has some movement but nothing like the right.

I’m starting to wonder at 440 miles if the 32s are too much tire! Ha.  Who knows.

Instead of ordering another set of bearings from cfmoto I found a timken replacement.  Bearings should be here this week.

If anyone is curious they are: 30x60x37mm.

Yeah that's pretty early for bearings to check-out. Any wheel spacers?

Yeah I have spacers as well.  I’m guessing a mix between that and tires plus I ride through deep creeks fairly often.

Yep...#1 killer of wheel bearings is spacers. Larger tires makes it worse...add water and...short bearing life. The Timkens should last a lot longer.

I've found water to be the critical element. Bearings get hot, sunk into water to rapidly cool, and the water gets sucked in.

When I greased my bearings at 500 miles or so, the grease pushed out a bunch of rusty water (and nasty grease). I'm still on the same bearings at 2200 miles and they are fine, so keeping them greased and clean is worth the effort.

I was actually thinking about getting a bearing grease tool.  I usually just change them.

Does anyone of the torque spec for the tie rods and axle nut?

Thanks for the part #!
Yes spacers multiply the stress on front (and IRS rear) wheel bearings. The bearing races are very close together and in stock form the load is carried centered on that tiny space between them. As soon as you add spacers the load center moves way outboard of the bearing locations putting the inner bearing in downward compression and the outer one in upper compression.
As well, with spacers installed the suspension bushings are now loaded up and under pressure all the time instead of just locating the suspension parts.
Personally I wouldn't put spacers on my machine if they were free. :)

Hey, does the fron wheel bearing are the same as the rear?

They appear to have the same part number on the parts diagram.
