What road-legal tires do you use?
« on: September 14, 2024, 09:38:35 AM »
My 2020 Z-Force Sport 1000 reached 4 years old and I needed to pass the ITV which is the Spanish roadworthy test.

My buggy failed due to the tires, I'd fitted some Maxxis Ceros, but the load rating was not correct for highway use.

After looking around, it seems there are hardly any suitable tires that meet or exceed the load rating requirements.

The specs required are:
27x9/R14 76G (front, delantero)
27x11/R14 83G (rear, trasero)

The original tires are CST Stag CU58's, with the above ratings, but be careful, as there are CU58's with a lower load rating (<76G, <83G).

I also found the Maxxis Coronado MU9B, which have the following specs:
27x9/R14 80K (front, delantero)
27x11/R14 89K (rear, trasero)

https://www.maxxis.com/us/tire/coronado/

Mine haven't arrived yet, but according to photos I found online, they have the European 'E' mark on them, and are rated for highway service (i.e. they are not 'NHS').  See attached photos of the Maxxis Coronado MU9B.

Just wondering what road-legal tires everyone else here in Europe/Spain uses on their Z-Force's?

Don't know about other places but there is no reason to stick with a UTV tire..or any off-road only tire when you are allowed on the roads and do much road traveling. Here in places that allow it like Arizona, people just use an good Light Truck tire that's all terrain and have them balanced.

Here in Wisconsin, most users who run the highways also run basically a light truck tire.  Get much better life out of them as well.  I'm still on the factory tires yet on our 2023 950 EX.

I got on the local classified and bought some take offs from a yamaha, and use those for driving street legal, then pop on my good tires when I go offroading.

Hi from Spain.

You need to go to some "trail" model, or if you want oem style, the only one I got is DURO di2039 and duro di2037, is the only one to fit Sport 2023 model (rated 81N) but I see you use 83 rated load (no sense, even the SPEED is ridiculous because in Europe, they are limited to 60km/h max speed)

Luckily I was able to solve with this models to my Gen2 Zforce, in fact, is the only model avaliable.

Really it´s a big issue. The only option is to get the oem tires, but even dealer doesn´t sell.

And you need the E4 homologation too. Some tires are sold as NHS as you say, and havent the E4 logo stamped (according I investigate, even if you get Nhs logo, if speed code and load code is stamped, you could be able to pass the inspection, but I have doubts about it)

Crazy¡¡¡ better to store the oem tires for ITV, but is annoying to put every time.

Regards

Just a quick follow-up.  I've had the Maxxis Coranado's on for a little while and did a trip to Merzouga in Morroco with them fitted.

I found them BAD for sand use, the tires are very hard even with low air pressure, when compared to the Maxxis Ceros I was using before. I couldn't go on the same routes I went the previous year and essentially had to avoid large dunes for fear of shedding a drive belt.  The traction in the sand was BAD.  I would not recommend them if you want to go on sand.

For rocky terrain they seem fine so far.  Not had much mud use yet, but I didn't get stuck at one deep muddy spot I went through twice so that's good I guess.

I do however miss the ground clearance of the Maxxis Ceros I had which were 30" compared to the Coranados which are 27".

I'll follow up again regarding durability and other thoughts in the future.  I expect them to last a while due to the hard compound.

In the mean time, if anyone knows of other road-legal tires not mentioned above please let us know!
