Wear on front upper suspension bushings.
« on: February 21, 2021, 10:06:52 AM »
Hi guys,

My ZForce 1000 Sport has 2400kilometers (1500miles) on it now and there is quite a lot of play on the both sides of the front upper control arms. You can grab the top of the front wheel and move it in/out from the center of the chassis and it knocks a little.

The play appears to be coming from the upper control arms, which have been greased up using the grease nipple at least a couple of times.  The bolt is very tight, and also appears to be annoying 18mm size, when most of the tools are 17 and 19mm...

Has anyone else had to replace theirs yet?  If so what mileage?

The terrain I drive on here in Spain is made mostly of rocks and gravel, and we do a fair bit of hill-climbing too.

Any idea of any potential upgrades in this area?

Bushings have been a know wear part on CFMoto quads for years.

I had to replace a handful of single bushings over time and eventually bought a full set of bushings from Mortchmotor.com for relatively cheap money. Now they get replaced as soon as they show signs of wear.

Great, that's what I figured, but was mainly curious about the amount of mileage people get out of them.  I'm ordering a few, hopefully today.

Before Garage Products came out with there "Forever" set I adapted this set of ASR Delron for a RzR 800. To fit right they needed to be knurled and glued to seal but they could just be glued. I also went with new 5/8" (I believe) sleeves that actually fit the bushings as the CFM's were a hair small. But the Garage Products are complete with the sleeves so if I ever need another set I'll go with theirs. So far though over 1100 miles on the ASRs and still tight as the day installed.

I emailed them today and asked if they will be making some CF Moto ZForce specific ones.

Nope..they only make them for the older Z 800s & 1000s. Everyone start emailing them to make them for the 950s.

Just an after-thought, someone could look-up the part numbers on the 1000s and the 950s to see if they used some of the same ones...and they might have.. If I have time I might take a look.

EDIT: Took a look...they have different part numbers. Bummer.

So I contacted them via facebook (https://www.facebook.com/GarageProducts/)

Hi, I'm trying to find replacement bushings for the ZForce 950/1000 SPORT (2020) front upper control arms.

CF Moto part 5BY0-050102
Do you have something that will fit?

Garage Products Bushings >
Ignore the “13-18” these will work

https://www.gpbushings.com/product/13-18-cf-moto-sxs/

Me>
Which 'model'  1000 EX?

Garage Products Bushings >
And yes 1000 ex

Me>
If I pick 'front', is that enough bushings to both sides, top and bottom?  it's not quite clear what you get from the pictures/info.

Garage Products Bushings>
Yes

Me>
And once installed, no need to use the grease fitting or?

Garage Products Bushings>
Only apply grease at install.

The only problem for me is that shipping to Spain is 60USD, I'm working with them to try and find something cheaper...  There will likely be customs charges, service fees as well as VAT added on the product, customs charge and service fee too...

That's good...and the one thing to remember is they should last forever so whatever the shipping charges are...might be worth it.

Might be a dumb question but are the front arms the same if the bushing are?  I see they have different part numbers but the numbers are different on the bushings as well.

The reality is, if there are different part numbers, there is something different. What...we don't know. Maybe not enough to worry about. On the a-arms, as the suspension geometry is completely different I would suspect they are very different.

I went with stock bushings in the end, very cheap and fairly easy to change once you find an 18mm spanner to go on the nut on the end of the bolt.

You can't get a socket or impact driver on the nut due to the clearance of the steering rack.  Turns out that many spanner sets don't include an 18mm spanner and odd sizes over about 13mm are much more common, i.e. 15/17/19/21, etc.  So if you need to do this job check that you've got an 18mm spanner and a good impact driver and extension for the long bolt.

I called that garage bushings and they were no help at all. He sounded like I was annoying him when I was asking about bushings for the z950.  I think he was having a bad day.  Happens to the best of us. Anyway, I ended up going with stock as well.

These might be an option over stock.  I’m not sure if they are any good but probably worth a look.   I think I read 90 shipped for front 950 bushing.
