More Lift Talk
« on: May 30, 2023, 11:27:11 AM »
I was on Facebook asking around about lift kits and someone said that that Polaris RZR XP 1000 lift kit kit from Cloud 9 would fit.     https://allthingzutv.com/cloud-9-full-spring-kit/

This kit gives a 3 inch lift,  I assume simply due to longer springs.

So 2 questions arise from this.

1) Has anyone else tried this, do they know if these springs will actually fit?

2) Given that this is a 3 inch lift which is likely accomplished by stretching out the shock,  is there any danger of topping out the shock and damaging it?

I was just looking at the machine and I have a little machine shop.  I could make risers that would bolt to the bottom of the shocks and mount on the frame to provide the lift.

Is there any consensus on a 3 inch lift.  Is this possible without breaking axles or CV Joints?

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks
Colin

I can't speak for the 950's new suspension..or if the XP kit will fit.. but on all previous models, 2" was the limit without extended a-arms and axles. There is always the possibility of topping-out shocks as they are the only thing that stops the suspension from dropping all the way unless you have limit straps. One fact of CV joints exist throughout all the brands and makers...and that is the more angle, the easier they are to break. As I recall 37 degrees is the normal operational limit and most are at or near that at full extension.

Thank you Kawierider.  I suspected as much.  No sense in modifying the machine only to have it break down in the middle of a 150 km ride.

If it were mine and I was having ground clearance issues, I would set the preloads to give me 60/40 travel..that's 60% of it's available travel to compression or downward.. and 40% to rebound or extension, the go with a size up on tire size with any clutch tuning necessary. Then a decent set of skid plates. If money wasn't a problem I would also get a custom set of Elka or Bandit shocks.

I have not had any issues yet but I know who I am riding with and the last video showed them riding pretty deep to cross rivers.  I really don't want to do that.   That said I know that eventually I will have some issues.

By the time you get new shocks you are half way to the price of portals.  I am told they have used they have used the RZR 800 portals on CF Moto buggies but I don't know which buggy and I don't know how much work it is

Mainstreet cycle says they are making some but its now 4 months later and all we can hear is crickets.

Call or email the guys at SuperATV. See what they are up to on the portals.
