Leaks
« on: February 14, 2021, 07:51:19 PM »
Hey guys.

I saw a post on fb about a leaking engine case on a 950.  My dad had a 800 that leaked out the case then attempted to be fixed by a new case and leaked again. Anyway after seeing the post I decided to check mine.   Ended up finding a couple issues.   It seems mine is seeping some oil out of the engine.  Luckily not where the case splits but some kind of cover on the bottom of the engine passenger side.   I believe this will be an easy fix.

I’m more concerned with the multiple anti freeze leaks I noticed when I was under there.  It had puddled in a couple places on the skid: under the water pump which shows signs of leaking and directly in front on the hose clamp. Then you follow that hose to the connection on the frame and it has antifreeze on the cross member.

The machine has never over heated and sill had fluid in it.  I’m worried about what’s causing what seems to be high pressure to blow antifreeze out all these places.  I want to say it may be something as simple as the radiator cap.  Of course I’m taking it back to the dealer as it’s under warranty.  I just wanted to check if anyone else was experiencing this.

It should be pretty hard for antifreeze to leak anywhere. The only thing that I can think of is that there is a vent hose on the water pump itself. If this is leaking that means that the water pump seal is starting to go bad.

When it's not negative 25 f out I plan on getting rid of the old coolant. Maybe it has better lubricity or something?

Def strange.   Went out to the garage and it’s leaking out of both sides of the hose. Highly doubt it’s the weep hole as the hose is completely bone dry.  Thanks tho.

Taking it to the dealer tomorrow.  We’ll see what they say.    You can see from the pics it looks like 3 different places.  Hard to tell but there are no run marks and it’s been sitting level.  A little disappointed as i have only had it since October.  But hey everything has its problems.

Crazy. I'll have to start watching mine. In the last pic, what is that cover for? That looks like a design flaw. No support for the middle of the cover at all. Hmmmmm

Good point about the support.  The only thing I can figure is it’s something for a different model.  Maybe for an oil color or something idk.

I did drop it off today at the dealer.  I’ll let you all know when I get it back.

So, I heard from the dealer today who said that the seals are leaking between the hose on the water pump, on the frame side and the water pump and they will fix it. (Exactly where I showed them)  I asked for a reason and he stated it’s all seal problems.  I find this hard to believe it’s leaking out of three different places at once. Honestly it could be more as I didn’t drop the rest of the skid.  He just assured me all the problems would be fixed under warranty.  The dealer is about 1.5 hours from my house so I strongly encouraged him to fix it and fix it right.

Following that conversation he stated he did not see an oil leak between the cases.  I figured he was looking there because of the past issues on other models.  He’s going to check the location picture above.  It is a little irritating because I showed him all this when I dropped it off.  But I’m trying to be patient.

I still go back to my original post about the leaks. I grew up in a radiator shop and I still believe the only or most likely cause to have multiple leaks is a faulty cap.  I may just get one myself and see.

99% of the coolant leaks that have been reported here have been either the water pump mechanical seal or just loose clamps on the hoses. I am unaware of any seals on hose connections..just loose or junk spring clamps.

Ha ha. Thats funny I actually told him I was confused when he said seals on hose. I know for a fact the screw clamp was tight but continued to leak.  The spring clamp seemed to be ok but there is no way to be sure (leaked)  Water pump leaking.. who knows.

Absolutely. As I’m a little disappointed in the whole situation, I’m def not one of those people who are ready to trade it or get rid of it.  I’ve had a lot of machines and they all have their issues...trust me.

I’ll post back when I hear back from them.  I did order another cap. I figure it’s a little bit of insurance if I get it back and it’s still leaking.  Cheaper than towing it back over there.

Thanks for reading my rants.
