Hmmm ...  I wonder if not installing the canister would void any remaining warrantee ...

I would have them set it up as it is meant to be, and then disconnect it at home, just in case you need to  return the machine to the dealer in the future for warrantee work.

Yeah...that might be a better plan.

That’s a good thought but all cf moto parts (even a $2750 engine) have a 30 day warranty.  I thought this was crazy so I called cf moto directly who confirmed.  The rest of my year warranty is up.

Well I finally got the cf back.  I called them last week and. They didn’t have a time frame for putting the engine in so I brought it home. Saturday I tore it out and put it back in yesterday.  Pretty big job so I see why they were hesitant.  They did let me borrow the pullers for the clutch and magneto, which was cool.

Some things I noticed with taking the motor out:

1. CF Moto needs to figure out torque specs.  Thing were either wayyy to loose or I had to use a three foot breaker bar.

2.  The engine was completely dry. No sign of oil.  Made sure I primed it really well.

3.  When you buy a long block I feel it should have a magneto in it.  Every motorcycle engine that I have replaced did.

4.  The amount of stuff that has to come off to get the motor out is ridiculous.  It has to come out the middle of the machine instead of the rear.  Would have been easy to make it so the back unbolted.

All in all it’s not too bad, but it’s not easy either.

Yeah I’m happy.  It’s kinda cool to do the work yourself.  You learn so much more about the machine.  Basically I need to put on the pipe as dropped one of the donuts.  Then the plastics and cage.  Can’t wait to get it on the road.

Basically done.  Took it for a ride today and so far so good.  Just need to put the new air filter in it and skid on.  Battery doesn’t seem to want to take a full charge.  When I picked it up from the dealer is was completely dead. Hard to tell how long, probably through the whole winter.  If I can’t get it to charge does anyone know what size it is?  I don’t see any markings on it.

It's probably toast thanks to them not charging it but put it on a tender and let it go. Might take several days to a week but I've seen them finally take a full charge.

Ok.  Thanks for that. I put it on the trickle charger last night.  We’ll see!

Found a leak from the oil strainer cap.  I didn’t know what it was until I checked the manual.  Bolts are seriously tight.  Probably over tight.

Probably warped or they left out the gasket.

What’s the reason for the strainer?  Any idea? I’ve seen them on things without filters.  Never noticed one on a utv.

I believe it’s probably warped due to the tightness of these bolts.  I can see the gasket.  Time for some silicon I suppose.

I always thought it catches the big stuff before it gets pulled into the oil pump's intake. Mine does not have that kind of access so it's never been cleaned. Looking at the manual for the 1000s, I see it takes a special "flat surface" gasket adhesive..looks like just around the screen end itself. That's odd. Be careful with those soft, cheap Chinese bolts. They twist off very easily.
