Clutch cvt belt
« on: May 28, 2023, 09:28:04 AM »
hello friends!! I have problems again with my zforce sport !!! I trust you for your experience. I make a start from zero with full pedal and the engine goes up to 7000 rpm and skids, but after a few seconds when the speed goes up the engine drops to 5,500 rpm. I feel as if the belt is slipping or losing grip but I'm not sure because it is Ultimax ua 485 with 500 km. In another case, I'm going on the highway at normal speed and I accelerate at full throttle and the engine does not rev up. It stays stuck above 5000rpm, seems like it's stuck in a higher gear than usual and can't downshift to get higher rpm. I have a new belt with 400 km and the variator plates in good condition, they do not have a step or anything strange. Does it look familiar to you? Thank you, take care of yourselves.

First impressions are that the belt looks OK...but you need to do a full inspection on it and both clutches..paying attention to the helix ramps and pads on the secondary and condition of the plastic parts of the flyweights in the primary. Check the belt length and width too.

Thanks very much buddy. I did not dare to work for myself. But with your advice full of experience I am calmer. Next weekend I'll get to work. I will start by disassembling the two plates and observing the wear of the parts of the plastic weights, the ramps, etc. Now I have 4,800 km and the belt was mounted new at 4,000 km. My driving is smooth, walk mode. The first strap lasted 4,000 km, although it used to skid frequently. I will take photos of everything to upload so that we can all learn. blessings.

This may seem like a dumb question but I didn't see any mention of it in your post...did you break the belt in properly? I just installed the same belt on my Zforce 950 HO EX and broke it in and have ran it hard every since and have NONE of the issues your describing which makes makes me think you may have a clutch issue, not a belt issue. Either way, keep us posted what you find find out. Good luck my friend

My first leash lasted 4,000 kilometers, although in long gear it slipped a bit. The new belt with 800 kilometers already sounds like skidding in long gear. This Saturday I will disassemble everything again and I will check the belt, weights, sliding plastic plates, etc. and I will pay attention to the clutch as you say. It seems to be more a problem with the clutch than with the belt and its components.

Hello, how did you brake it? Any particular recommendation?

To break in a belt, use low gear (if available) while varying speeds and avoiding wide open throttle for 5 to 10 miles. If no low gear is available, vary at moderate speeds while avoiding wide open throttle for 50 miles.

Breaking in a belt is about more than a set number of miles and avoiding high engine RPM. It's about flexing the belt in the correct direction. The side faces need to wear and mate to the proper angle of the sheaves and wear into the correct friction. Cut belts are too sticky, while ground belts are too slippery when new. That wear needs to happen under low load and temperature. Belts run hotter when first installed and are more sensitive to high loads until they break in.

The goal of break-in is to achieve a high number of flex cycles under low load while maintaining low temperatures.

Never saw one melt like that. Mine just wore-off until I put a filter on the intake and stopped all the abrasive stuff from coming in. Those need replaced asap. One question-why isn't the helix resting against the pad?
