Intake mods?
« on: August 04, 2022, 04:39:39 PM »
I have a 2021 ZForce 500 Trail.  I live in Utah and the soil on trails is powder fine so dust is a problem.  I've been watching RedNeck garage on Youtube.  Steve's Mod is moving the air intake box into the cargo area and adding a snorkel/stack up higher than the cab to keep it out of the dirt.  While I think the location of the air intake filter box is in a dumb place, I'm not sure this is the best solution.  I've been thinking of just reworking the actual intake between the seats so that it goes up higher than the seats in the cab.  Anyone else made any mods like this?  I looked into the KWT Prefilter, separator, and KWT told me, the 500 doesn't have the horsepower needed for the Separator to work which is why they don't offer one for the 500; even though my CFMoto dealer tried to sell me one.  Thoughts?

Look...lots of us have done lots of things to fix this problem. Me especially. I have lots of different phases of mine in the how tos. and have spent ..more money on it then I care to say...and still have one more 400-dollar thing to but, a S&B particle separator. But the best thing I have seen for the average trail rider that doesn't need snorkels is to just build a box behind the center grill that keeps all that dust and hot engine air from getting to the intake tube and make it pull only through that grill in the cabin...no where else. There's a guy here that made one out of a pizza box and duct tape. Worked perfect. If I had it to do all over again, I would do that along with putting the Unifilter in the air box. That's it. I'm sure it can be made with some 1/8" sheet ABS and a little thought...and a heat gun.
