Cvt cleaning

Just curious, but if water gets in to my cvt the manual says to drain the water from the drain cock and run the motor, cvt in park or neutral so the heat will dry things out. Ok what if I purposefully inject a cleaning mixture of 50/50 water and simple green to clean my cvt, drain, run rinse water through, drain, then run the engine to evaporate the remaining water? Will this cause harm to anything? Thanks for the input.

There will be no way to get all the soap out and your belt will be like it been greased. That and all the powered materials in the primary roller slots will become hard as a rock and pack in there. Just take the cover off , and the clutches out, clean everything with compressed air. Clean sheave surfaces with a scotchbrite pad and wipe down with acetone. Same for the belt edges and reassemble. You can do as I did-filter the intake air but you will be clearing that filter every 30 miles of dusty driving or else it will stop-up and cause the belt to overheat...then it's gone.

Cleaned up my cvt belt and pulleys yesterday while upgrading my air intakes, I used an air nozzle off my compressor to blow out most of the dust, used a green pad to skuff the pulley surfaces, and rubbing alcohol to clean the surfaces and belt edges. Wasn't much dust and the belt looked almost new after almost 700 miles. Another project done!
