Short story: That fuel pump retainer ring that's always loose and I can't believe hasn't been recalled due to fuel leaking all over the place...
Mine won't stay tight. The ring is made of soft (more rubber than plastic) material and it gets tight, then oblongs, then will jump a thread in a day or two and it's loose again.
I'm willing to bet that one off a different UTV/ATV would fit, as there's likely only a few sized of these things. I checked and AllBalls sells replacement rings (as do other companies....) and one part seems to cover all Polaris applications, and a 2nd part # for all CanAm, etc...
Checking CFMoto parts diagrams for tons of different models and years, they pretty much all seem to also have the same part number. (7020-120101)
Dollars to donuts THAT is the exact same as the one that fits Polaris...or CanAm...or... The problem is, I don't have access to one of the other models to measure it.
Also, I can't find where any of the aftermarket suppliers actually give the size of the ring...they just list them by vehicle fitment.
The OD of mine measures 141mm or 5.55 inches. That's the OD of the ring, measured between the ribs. Anyone have access to measure one of the other makes and maybe there's one that matches up? No, not an exact science, but I'm betting that there's only a few standard sizes, and am willing to risk wasting $40 to order one and try it.
I'm seriously at the point where I don't even ride this thing because our trails always have deep(ish) water holes and any water that reaches or splashes on the top of the tank will go IN the tank.
Also, if there's someone reading that's familiar with this ring, and knows what I mean when I say that it's 'soft' and will stretch and jump a thread....have you replaced the ring with a CFMoto replacement, and maybe a new one is stiffer?
I was even thinking maybe a few wraps of electrical tape on the tank threads to 'thicken' them up a bit.
Maybe get it sung and then clamp it with a BIG hose clamp....
I stress: The ring isn't backing off. It's jumping a thread and that leaves it loose the equivalent of a full turn.
Anyone able to assist? Want to team up and find an aftermarket replacement ring that'll fit? Suggestions?
