2016 zforce 500 water pump
« on: October 06, 2017, 01:28:40 PM »
Well my machine is yet again at the dealer. I'll start from the beginning and try to keep the long story short. I bought a 2016 zforce 500 ho off the showroom floor, was leaking coolant from the weep hole from day 1 dealer said it was normal. 3 months later it was getting worse and worse, never overheated thankfully always kept coolant with me. Took it to the dealership, they had it for 3 months, while they had it they apparently installed the wrong water pump 3x and overheated the engine all 3 times until it shut down ( told me they shut down automatically before they get too hot) after the 3 long months got my machine back, had it for 1 day found the wrecked my stator, took it back they had it for 2 weeks, got it back all was great had it 3 days took it out and 5 min into riding I could smell coolant and oil, turns out my cylinder and head were warped from the over heating. Took it back, the dealership had it for 9 months, in that 9 months they claim to have rebuilt it 3x with no success, sent the engine to Quebec where they are made in Canada here, got the engine back put it in and same problems.. oil and coolant leaking, 2 weeks later I made my daily call of "is my machine done yet" and they said no they gave up on it come get a new one. They give me a "new" machine that's been sitting outside over a year, all seats and plastics faded and water loged, whatever I get a new machine hope for the best. Pick up the new one have it for almost a month with no problems. Then the water pump started leaking.... and the thermo switch quit (and no I never overheated it I shut it down once my temp gauge read 1 bar higher than usual and I noticed the fan wasn't on so towed it back home and took it in they claimed they had all the parts at the dealership and now knew what to do. Well it's been there 2 months... I'm a Heavy duty mechanic so I know how to fix things myself it's just the fact that it's under warranty, but my question is does anyone know the fix for the water pump? I want my machine back I have been paying for over a year on and only had it a small percentage of that time. I'm sick of it I'll get the parts take my machine back from the dealer and do it myself if anyone wants to email me they can at cwjw22@gmail.com

Thanks for any replys

Wow...I think if all that happened to me I would have given-up on CFM....and your useless dealer.. long ago. The water pumps for the 800s are now a kit that comes all together which makes it much easier to fix so I'm sure the 500s are not that different. There are some cautions on installing mechanical seals...that apparently your dealer isn't aware of...like if anything other then water or coolant gets on the phenolic or ceramic surfaces, even a finger print sometimes, it will never stop leaking...ever. Being in the pump business taught me that right off the bat.

:o I don't know why some dealers have difficulty with this issue. Ceramic seals are not a new thing however you need to be careful. They do have a special tool for installing it, maybe that is where they fail........I don't know. Even without the proper tool I'm sure it could be done successfully.

Most likely pinched the stator wiring.

Where are you located?

Man that sucks, I would be all over CFM Canada demanding a showroom fresh machine and not some leftover sitting outside in the elements for a year. I hope it gets better in a hurry for you.

are you supposed to use a non silicate coolant with these seals? I know my Honda Goldwing I have to use coolant silicate free. Maybe these are the same and it hasn't been published??

Oh believe me I have given up on the dealer. But as far as cfmoto goes, all the good things I read about the 800 I don't want to give up. I do like the machine just not this god forsaken water pump issue. I didn't know that about the ceramic seals so that's a good thing to know. I appreciate all the input and info and I'm located near lloydminster Alberta / saskatchewan

And if anyone has an actual phone number for cfmoto Canada I would greatly appreciate it as I cannot find one online and my dealership will not give me one.

I'm not too sure where abouts are you? If you like you can email me cwjw22@gmail.com or text/ call me 780-214-4244

I got a call from the dealership my next new water pump is supposed to be in on October 16, they say that they found out there mechanics were oiling the ceramic seal and that's why they were failing. But who knows. I hear the water pump on a 660 Yamaha grizzly is the same as the cfmoto 500 one. Anyone know if that's true?

Sorry, not sure how to post quotes, but thanks for a heads up on this issue. I'm about to tackle this issue of leaking pump myself.
