Are my rpms too high?
« on: February 07, 2021, 11:20:14 AM »
So I just bought a 2021 Cforce 600 touring and I love the machine. However I notice that my rpms are a little high. Around 5000 rpm for just about 3-15 mph. I haven't looked at them much more than that. But I remember it's always sounded like it was wound tight. Is that normal? I'm new the cvt transmissions so that could also be it. Just looking for feedback.

To me it's not normal but there have been several others state that their 600s wrapped pretty high like that. There are some that say CFM did this to get that extra HP out of the 600 and between a combination of heavier flyweights and lighter spring in the primary, they got it back down to something reasonable. In most CVT systems, although the stall can be adjusted to anything, most manufacturers have then engage about 6-900 RPMs higher then idle. Idle for most other small engines are between 800-1000rpm where idle for CFM's engines is all over the place from 1100 to 1800. Why these 600s were set to engage so high is a mystery unless it was just to be fully in the power band at engagement. Still...you should ask your dealer as it is a real concern.

I will call them probably Tuesday. Like I said I don't remember how high it was when I was going about 20-30 mph. But I do want to think it was high around 5000 or so.

I think from 3-15 5000rpm is too much however as much as 30 it may not be. Need to flip it over to RPMs and get some real readings, starting with idle, then clutch engagement, then at 20, 30, 40 and 50mph...if it will go that fast.

Hopefully I can call the dealer and see if they can check it out. Because this all should fall under warranty.

Ya, that engine is working way too hard for those slow speeds. It doesn't make sense and makes me think the CVT isn't opening up.

I guess I'll call the dealer Tuesday and see what they say. Hopefully I can drop it off and they can have it for a while to fix it. However just stinks that it's brand new.

Just talked to someone that has a Cforce 600. He said that it's a common issue and it will go down once the machine breaks in. He did some minor modifications to his. Changed the spark plugs, stage 2 uni air filter, and new exhaust tip.

I am still going to call the dealer and see if they will look it over.

Update:

So I spoke with 2 service departments near me and they said it's completely normal for up to 5000 rpm on High gear till the belt and machine break in.

That's nuts.  I don't believe it. First time I've ever heard of such a thing.

A CVT doesn't need a break-in period.

The engine does, and the recommendation is to keep it under 4500 rpms for the first 10 hours or so, which is impossible with your current machine.

Keep us posted.

I purchased a 2021 600 touring back in November and mine has never run that high of a rpm. Like you, this is my first cvt and mine generally run 3 to 4k for 3 to 15 mph in high and that seemed kinda high to me.
I know during the break in, In order to stay half throttle or less, I could only run around 22 mph

I agree but literally 2 different service departments about 1 hour from each other said the samething. I mean what do I do?
