NHATV club held their 20th anniversary ride this weekend at Mount Washington; as always it was a sold out event limited to 1200 machines I think, 600 in the morning, and 600 in the afternoon. We had tickets for the afternoon ride.
The weather below was clear and warm, while the weather up top was cool and thick fog often with less than 8 foot visibility. People at the summit looked like shadows walking by and finding the stairs to leave was tricky.
It was raining during the upper portion of our accent so the rain gear went on. My next purchase will be a windshield wiper :-)
The ride down was clear with great scenery once below the cloud cover. The Z didn't skip a beat! My only complaint is the noisy transmission.
I could smell burning belts on the way up and hot brakes on the way down from the machines in front of us. Everyone should have been using low gear to avoid this.
I encountered a Z800 that overheated on the way up. His fan was not operating. I suggested he disconnect the plug from the rad temp sensor and put in a jumper, but I think he decided to travel back down the mountain instead of proceeding to the top and risking engine damage.
A Can Am had overheated, another machine split a radiator hose, and a Polaris had broken a belt. There were other failures throughout the day as well. The safety crews were johnny on the spot with assistance.
All in all, a well run event.
