Breaking in my 2016 cforce 500 HO
« on: August 15, 2016, 06:26:34 AM »
So far so good. I've just been putting around the  property trying to break the motor in easy. So far I have been fairly impressed with the power that it has and haven't even gone full throttle. This automatic transmission is going to take some getting used to. Having to stop to switch from low range to high range is definitely different for me. And so far I am finding it impossible to keep a steady pace at a low-speed. And I'm not terribly impressed with the seat cushion. I suffer from the noassatall disease and the padding seems minimal at best. And my girl didn't like the back rest so it came off. With that said I am still happy with my purchase. And I believe it is more than I needed for working around the property. So one day I may carry it to an ATV park just to see what all it can do. I do have a question about the break-in period though. The manual says 20 hours for break-in but I can't find an hourmeter on the dash. How many miles would you say should be considered break-in?

according to this chart from cfmoto canada its 300 km for first oil change  which is about 150 miles  http://www.cfmoto.ca/sites/24382/Maintenance%20guide%20800V2-%20500%20HO%20400%20HO.pdf

Thanks scott09. My book says 20 hours or 750km. And at 750km that seems  very excessive for the break-in oil. And who can go that far in the first 20 hours anyway lol! It says no more than 1/2 throttle for first 10 hours and no more then 3/4 throttle from 10-20 hours. I think I will do the first oil change around 70-80km and consider that my break-in. Anyone see an issue with this time frame?

Changed mine at 130 miles. Also get rid of the stock air filter and put on a  uni or k&n filter. Other than that enjoy your machine.

Wow! 130 miles on factory oil? I was going to do it at about 50 miles. And I have an air filter on the way. But the factory doesn't look as cheesy as I thought it would. It's a decent looking, almost cloth like filter with a foam wrap. But it doesn't have any oil on it. I was considering spraying it down with the k&n oil I use on my motorcycle. But I didn't want it to fall apart.

Its a paper filter so no oil. Just replace it. They do let 5 micron and smaller dust particles by so the sooner the better. And I would change the oil in 50 miles or less.

Got it! I'm doing oil in both front and rear diff. Re-greasing and giving it a good overall check. Then I'll go by book recommend intervals.

Yeah these Chinese machines it's better to keep good clean oil in them and fresh clean air going to them.

I did my 500 HO oil change at 250 miles. Came out real nice looking. One of the mechanics said the best way to break them in is to vary the throttle a lot and give it the onion here and there to heat seal the rings. My engine seams to be just find, and I can cruise at 5 MPH now. I have just under 500 miles on it. Doesn't hurt to warm the engine for around 5 minutes either before heading out.

Hello, there is service bulletin addressing an issues with late cf550 for slow speed riding, unable to maintain a steady speed. Keep braking in and checking if your low speed riding improve.

Ok so I was double checking to make sure I was ordering the right oil filter when I noticed a broken vent of some sort. I'm sot sure if this is the water pump or part of the transmission. Is this going to be an issue if I find some mud one day? Or is it no big deal? These pic's were taken from the left side.

That's your weep port for the water pump. The earlier ones like mine had no tube on them, just that hole. Its true you don't want to get muddy water in it or plug it up but you should get a new brass nipple for it..I guess.

Thank you! I'm glad to know it's just a weep hole. I wonder if the dealer will send me one. I honestly don't know if it came this way or if I did it. I have under 17miles on it, mostly around the yard. But I have taken it though the woods some too (had to get that first set of scratches out of the way lol) so it could have caught a stick.

I guess I need to look into a skid plate. The sopo one on here doesn't appear to have a hole for changing oil and filter. So does it have to be removed to change the oil and filter? Seems like a pain.
