Big Hole Pass Montana into Idaho
« on: July 29, 2019, 11:58:33 AM »
Started by riding to Ajax Lake again.  Then from Ajax went across Forest Land, along the Continental Divide over to the Gibbonsville road.  Followed the road over the Continental Divide down into Gibbonsville, Idaho and had dinner at The Broken Arrow Mexican Restaurant.  After dinner road back to our starting point in the Big Hole Valley near Jackson Montana.  Total trip was 73 dusty, dirty miles.  What do you all do to stay somewhat clean when you ride dusty trails?  Do full doors help?  Back window"  What?  I had to wash and change clothes (yes, I took a change of clothes) before dinner at Gibbonsville because I was so dirty.  Please give me some suggestions 'cause I tired of being very dusty after each ride.  TIA.

I only slowed it down but yes, front and back windshields, doors that seal, sealed every hole I could find in cab plus sealed the gap across the top of the firewall all the way across and down each fender to the bottom. Then if people are in front I stay way back and crack my flip windshield to get just some positive pressure in the cab. That slows what comes in above the doors.

NMK - Thanks for the tips.  One other thing, is your sxs lifted?  The reason I ask is because when you were typing about building snorkels you mentioned getting them above the dust line, or something like that.  Anyway, would a lift kit help get the entire sxs up a bit closer to that line and get the entire body further away from the tires where, I feel, a lot of the internal dust comes from?  Sorry, but I'm desperate, 'cause I didn't like being that dirty from a longer ride.  All of our other rides have been 15-20 miles and mostly over slow, rocky terrain, so not a lot of dust.  Anyone else having this problem?...Remedies?

Mine is not lifted...and a couple of inches won't make any difference. The stacks or snorkel intake took in less dust the closer to the roof line they were but they looked pretty silly so I shortened then down. They do get more dust where they are now but..wth.. can't be perfect..lol.
