Re: Yoke bolt backed out- how to access it to tighten?

Yeah- it's definitely the one I'm thinking. Hard to tell in the pic below, but that's where it goes.

I managed to get two of the clips off and have been hammering away trying to get the caps off the ujoint, but I can't get them yet. I managed to hammer one through enough that it gave me slightly more access and I was actually able to finagle the bolt in place and get a half turn on it, but still don't have access to tighten it down.

Good thing I've got nothing but time on my hands... I'm spending forever trying to do something that should be much more straight forward. I feel like I must be missing a key step to make this easier, but everything I read/watch suggests I'm attempting the right stuff.

I could probably unbolt the plate where the shaft attached to the diff but I don't think that would allow me to remove the shaft either- there doesn't seem to be enough play in it.

Yeah its hard to see the bolt at all let alone do something about it. Just looks like the end of the shaft to me. Wonder of there is something other then a hammer that can be used to push the caps out..like some kind of a ball joint tool or puller. Probably not enough room but just a thought.

I'm calling this a huge win and step forward. I got it out at least. Now I hopefully won't have too much trouble punching the joint apart in a vice.

Feel like I took half the bike apart to get here, but managed to get this far. Hopefully it goes back together easier than it came apart lol. I need at least 1 new bolt for the diff, and may end up replacing the ujoint when it's all said and done.

Wish I still drank- I could use a beer!!

Good god man...well at least it's out...and there is that F'k bolt. I assume you will be going all out and cleaning all oils off the threads, using RED thread locker and torquing it to spec plus 5 just for GP.

Yeah. Gonna clean everything up before putting it back in. Got  the yoke apart so I can put that back on with the bolt. Still need to get the rest of the joint out of the other yoke part- it's wedged in there nicely and the caps aren't coming off, but I'm saving that for another day. Decided to order a new joint since I have abused the hell out of this one getting it apart. I figure if $50 saves me having to get back in here cause I mucked it up through this process, it's well worth it. Also managed to source the new bolt for the diff that I cut. There going to go back in the right way this time!!

Taking a break from this nonsense for a few days while I wait for the parts to arrive. Then the fun of trying to get it all back together!! lol

Does the manual you have identify the torque spec for that yoke bolt? I can always just crank the hell out of it, but probably good to know if you have that spec handy. I only have blue loctite on site, so I guess I have more shopping to do if I should be using red on this.

I don't have a manual on one that new but on others that use a nut to retain either a yoke or flange it states 60-65n.M which is 44.25-47.94 ftlbs.
